AntiRelusionist made a video of his mobileblogging and reminded me that there may be people other than me who want this feature.

Currently, the Flash player supports the microphone but not the camera. If it can recognize the camera, users can live stream through ustream.tv or upload live video blogs to YouTube directly from the N800.

AntiRelusionist has this need and so do I. Does anyone else? If there is a demand, I'll submit a feature request to maemo.org and write it up in my blog.

Concern - Perhaps the CPU isn't strong enough?

Well how about just supporting the built-in camera in ANY application!

I mean seriously, it's a major feature of the device! What good is it?

Well other then that messaging app that only works between two N800 users, and as far as i know nobody is using.

Actually, back in the 770 days, hardly anybody requested that camera for a future device either.

Makes you wonder what Finnish equivalent of a slackjawed yokel wrote up the N800's specs...

Maybe they had hundreds of thousands of spare 640x480 CMOS sensors and didn't want to throw them away after they started stuffing 2MPixel sensors into everything else?

Seriously though... would anyone else use their webcam for direct YouTube or uStream capture?

I really want this feature, but it's NOT a problem with taking resources from the CPU. I mean, imagine how much memory it must take to make a live video conference. That's two ways. Ustream or YouTube is a one way deal. It has to be possible!

I don't think I would use the cam for blogging/podcasting, but I would use it for sure if it would evere been supported by skype or any N800 to pc video call..

I get that video communication is part of Nokia's "master" plan for the future. The "what comes next" kinda thing. But the execution on N800 has left a lot to be desired.

I'm nominating this for the "Understatement Of the Month" award.
