Let's start with the last issue (logical.. hehe!):

GAIM is outdated. It's Pidgin now.. so get that. Installation instructions are to be found right here: http://www.axemansplace.co.uk/?p=110 You are getting the protocol plug-in error because GAIM/Pidgin needs a separate plug-in to connect to each network (MSN in your case). You can install these from the repository I reckon.

Good, moving on to your other issues. The built-in Opera browser is bad. I suggest you try Minimo 0.2. It's a browser with better support for modern websites and quite stable. Installation instructions: http://tonikitoo.blogspot.com/2007/0...e-and-new.html (< read the comments. you need the herringer repository).

Almost forgot about your mail problem. While I've never used the mail client on the 770, it should function correctly. Just enter the same account info as you would in say Microsoft Outlook. So the correct pop/smtp server addresses, accountname, password.... Should work! Maybe you should look up a guide for setting AOL e-mail up on Outlook and apply that knowledge to the 770 mail client.

I was (am?) only a tad bit disappointed with the 770. Namely it's very poor at displaying PDF files. Both with the internal reader and Esence (can't remember the exact name). I'm also not too excited about FB2 for other ebooks, even though the people here seem to love it. But feck, I didn't buy it to read books... so it was only a minor letdown.

I hope my advice will bring you pleasure.

Hi thanks for that, I have installed Pidgin and when I try and run it I get unable to authenticate the email address or the password is incorrect !!

I have got myusername@hotmail.co.uk

and my password I know is right

The Two thing I installed was
Pidgin
and Pidgin protocol-msn

With the browser I have tried to install it both way's but will not work by going to http://www.maemo.org.br/minimo/ but this does not work and when I try add it as a new catalogue I get can not be added to list.

I have another problem I downloaded a app called password safe I have uninstalled it but it dont go from my menu in extras?

any more help you can give me would be great thanks

Since it gives an authentication error... I'd say one of these scenarios:
* MSN Messenger is currently down
* You have made a typo in your e-mail address or password (remember casesensitivity!)

For Minimo, you should add: http://www.maemo.org.br/minimo/ bora user
You are probably trying to use mistral instead of bora. Also don't forget to add the herringer repository.

Assuming the application is removed, you can delete the shortcut from Extra's via the Control Panel -> Task Navigator.

Ok so For Minimo I have to add * from AppManager

o Add/Edit this entry into "new catalogue":
+ web address: http://www.maemo.org.br/minimo/
+ Distribution: bora
+ Components: user

and

Web address - http://repository.maemo.org
Distribution - herring
Components - main

Assuming the application is removed, you can delete the shortcut from Extra's via the Control Panel -> Task Navigator.

I have tried this but it says use application manager to remove but when i go to application manager its not there

Its worth taking note for passwords specifically that by default in most text boxes for the first word entered it'll automatically Capitalise the first letter.

What's the matter with you? :P How can you not like FBReader, it only turns the 770/N800 into the greatest ebook reader ever made. Perhaps you should play with the settings to get it to where you want?

I'm not sure maybe its taste but the stock pdf viewer is more then fine
the screen is just awesome and fbreader is very nice
also using it to watch the odd video on ad listenig to some music
I think the 770 is rather good.
