i'm looking for an up to date perspective because the update was released last week

and why do you seem like a sad and negative person? i suggest you leave the computer for a few days because your behavior is messing my thread. no one is happy with every single thread in this forum and thats why we learn to ignore them and skip to the next one... sheesh...

Mods... The only one begging for you has issues and I think you should ban him to help him get his life back on track.

Calm down. People will have different ways of addressing you. And the very negative ones, just ignore it. Reacting in kind will only add fuel to the fire.

Good luck on your endeavors and your decision.

Fu..I personally would suggest you not to. I was recommending people to buy at some point but post PR1.2 & OVI... I have changed my opinion.

I feel the road ahead doesn't look promising for the N900 at least from Nokia. The community will definitely provide some extended life but practically it will remain a Unique phone with a unique OS.

As somebody said, its your decision....do not get influenced only by the negative comments on the phone, rather look around there are an equal number of satisfied/happy owners as well.... Your expectations might be within the features the device can offer better than the competition...so look around and make an informed decision

INCREDIBLE negativety you talk beause in a years time the n900
will have multiple os capability and probably every concievable application ported to this device.
You need to have more faith and trust in this community !.
The N900 will just get better and better never to be left behind and the reasons for that are simple.... N900 is completly programmable and this community !.

At the end of the day, people seem to think its all down to nokia, and so all the statements about "Nokia dropping the phone faster then throwing a duck off the ifel tower racing a bullet fired from a barratt" they're quite frankly talking out there ***...

I flicked onto this forum to find the other day, that the N900 is in progress of recieving real USB host mode, and i just think, how on earth have some dedicated programmers managed to fire off shots of voltage to get the two devices to talk to each other, i mean come on, the stuff in the N900 does not support USB otg thread etc, its immense to see the community is coming out with this,

So what i'm really trying to say is, the N900 is running wild, not because nokia released 1.2, not because its got an awesome hardware set, but purely because the people behind it (Community wise) are dedicated, its a fact, and if people wan't the n900 to suceed, it will, Nokia doesn't even play any part in the device success, and thats a plain and simple fact, and then theres meego...? How interested am i in it? Apserlutely 0...

QT libraries now on the N900 are up to date (So we support meego apps)
Debian (Love this kind of power on a device, just makes me drool...)
I mean people booted android, windows (Lower ver..) and even mac os at one point, its a joke, but the fact is, theres no boundries to what you can do with this phone, or what the community can do.

How do you know the hardware is not suitable for USB OTA on the N900?.

I don't think this matters if you like messing around with computers though. I knew nothing about Linux prior to owning this device and I am still very much enjoying the experience (and learning A LOT).

The 1.2 update was very minor as far as new functionality goes, and should not change your decision in any way.

If you have any desire for an iPhone experience, then the answer is right there - why buy an n900 if you want an iPhone. It's not an iPhone. It's not trying to be an iPhone. It would make a lousy iPhone. It's not for people who want an iPhone.

Did you search at all, or post in any of the other threads covering this same question?

Ask yourself
- what do I want to do?
- which device can do that right now?

Buy that one.
