Just purchased a 770, and I'm pretty sure I love it, that's of course if I learn how to use it!

I downloaded an e-book to my laptop, then transferred the files to my 770. When I click on the files, the PDF reader opens, but then I get a message 'document encrypted, enter user password then a pop up says, password needed. I've typed the password from the ebook.com site where it was downloaded from, and a few others - but they are all incorrect.

Please, can someone help me?

Cheers, Cathryn

Google around for a PDF password/DRM cracker and unlock it.

Back again, no luck!

I'm so annoyed, I bought the first e-book and downloaded to laptop, then transferred file, then wasn't able to access due to password problem. I bought another a little while ago, this time through my 770 tablet, and for whatever reason, I can't access the download screen. It says to click on the download button below, but there isn't one.

Is there anything I need to do? I'm downloading the adobe reader format - I'm not technically savvy, so I am finding this really frustrating. I started on this project over 24 hours ago and I still haven't been able to download an e-book. Is there any site more user friendly that I should try?

Any help, muchly appreciated, ta, Cathryn

1. Does the protected file open on your laptop?
2. What site did you purchase the 2nd ebook from?

Yes, the file opens on my laptop. I bought the 2nd ebook from the same place, www.ebooks.com -I have not been able to download this. I have contacted ebooks & I've just received a reply. They've asked me which version of Adobe Reader I have running on my tablet. I don't even know which version it is, I am such a newbie novice - sincerely appreciate any help.

Well there is an open-source application called "pdftk" ( http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/ ) which can do several very nice things with pdf files, including saving an unprotected copy, given you have the right password. There are binaries available for window$, macOS, and various linux distros, but not for maemo, unfortunately. I tried to compile this myself, but got lost in dependencies, so if someone smarter is out there, hey! That would be a great addition to IT software.
So, you can unprotect your ebook with pdftk and upload the unprotected version on your tablet.
Concerning the impossibility to download another ebook from ebooks.com, I tried to find some free pdf file to download from there, but with no success, so I cannot help you. But, the book preview from that site works great on my n800!

Thanks for the great advice. Shall try suggestions.

In the interim, in relation to ebook's reply, what version of Adobe pdf do I tell them I'm using.

Cheers, Cathryn

It's not an adobe program. It's unlikely that they will understand, though. Asking you which kind of reader you have, in response to your difficulty of downloading, is like asking what kind of frying pan are you planning to use, when you cannot open your fridge.

lol, thanks for explaining that, I'll just have to read the books on the laptop.

Can anyone give me a link to buy & download e-books that works with the 770, with ease?

Thanks debernardis, for all your help!

Cheers
