Make sure skype on computer is 4.2 or newer. I can place skype video calls without any problem. Front camera makes you look fat, thats my only complain now,

on the one hand we have a thread where people are complaining about lack of flash 10 for the n900 and on the other hand there are those who are thinking of changing to the iphone which has no flash at all..

am i supposed to understand that?
At least if the device doesn't support it flat out, then we know where we stand and accept that. The frustration of claiming to support it but then not doing so satisfactorily could be what causes the complaints?

Let's make this thread more constructive and discuss more on how Nokia can improve their products.
Why? What is the point in that? It is not as if Nokia has any interest in our suggestions or pays any heed to our complaints is it?

So we might as well sound off and if ever a Nokia exec decides to pay us a visit (heaven forbid) he will get an eye opener. Which may actually do some good in the long run.

If it hasn't been posted the front facing camera is 640-by-480-pixels.

The iPhone 4’s front-facing camera isn’t a 5-megapixel wonder; it’s a 640-by-480-pixel camera (three-tenths of a megapixel, if you’re curious) designed to be used primarily with the new FaceTime video-chat system, though it will also work well as a way to take self-portraits. You can flip between the front and rear camera from within the Camera app, as well as when you’re using FaceTime.

It just works for me but I do understand what you mean. The good side of walled garden and highly controlled appstore is exactly the end user experience. You make basically things happen only in one way and that one way just works. I see good sides of this idea and i understand why quite many people like it (after imho most of people deep down like to be controlled they do not like to be completely free to do what ever they want and to take full responsibility of what they do because its scary) Sadly, beside not having much time to learn things these people who fall in this same market segment have lots of money. And in the end money and ROI is what makes manufacturers do stuff.

So reason it works is partly the reason so many people do not like it :|

LOL people are already selling the pre-order iphone 4 on ebay. some nice deals there. £490.00 for a 32GB Iphone 4. but will you trust someone with 12 feedback.

Just phoned my m8t, he works in one of my local stores. he has told me the delivery date + time. wink wink. but if the phone needs to be activated would have to wait till date of release or might not work till that date anyhow.

i can see apple having all the IMIE numbers locked till that date to stop leaks

Not the attitude to take. Without the endusers the hardware and software don't mean a thing.

All these pages of comments [edit] about how N900 isnt as good as the Iphone 4G require some clarification. I expect this from a symbian forum but from Meemo? seriously?

Apple make one phone - just one. Thats it. Nokia makes hundreds.
Nokia has NEVER until very recently, been behind the game. Nokia's hardware and Software was a good decade ahead of motorolla, samsung and the only company close was sony Ericsson.

Those criticizing meego - seriously? grow up. This is a childish rant. Meego for mobile is not even released yet and you're sharing your useless wisdom. Meego will be very different from any apple OS. It by nature, is different.

There is no "myth" about nokia's approach to Openness. Just look up the "share your mod" thread and you will see what this bad boy Maemo (almost 9 month old device can do).

Everyone else, please contribute respectfully or just go sell your integrity and jump on the iphone wagon. We wont miss you.
And no ones gonna miss you when you'll sit and type on your buggy n900, having salacious thought about the next PR, while yerkin off to nokia. i was a dedicated nokia loyalist. but it just takes one bad phone for the customer to stray. no1 pays 600usd to get a crappy buggy phone. a month or two and most n900 users will switch. sadly nokia along with N8 is going to be history. and dont even talk bout meego. it isnt ready to be on a prod device. the iphone4 is already there, much better and will dominate smartphones once again. so all the best . u r the one who is going to be alienated.

I can see it...the next N900 will have better resolution...better cam like 8MP or 12MP....Ovi 3.0....even faster processor.....

BUT....maybe too late and I DO NOT like Nokia customer support.

1. DELAY DELAY DELAY in everything
2. OVI MAP 3.0 DELAY
3. LACK OF APPS in STORE
4. NO REFUND for the very people that help buy your phone before it even came out...THANKS A LOT!! WTF!!

I can sacrifice a few positive things i like about the N900 in order to get a better iPHONE 4.0 with better support. I do like N900 keyboard as it is easier to text...i do not think i like using screen touch to type. I do like about the paranoma desktop and YES FLASH is good.

But iPHONE 4.0 has everything i want and more.....this is the reason why i did not sign up a contract with Tmobile in case i want to switch phone.

sir the clueless endusers "masses" you refer to are the actual people whp buy nokia devices with their hard earned money. as a consumer everyone wants the best out of the product they bought. and n900 users or your so called masses feels cheated by nokia.

And thank God for Apple that it came and raised the bar, else nokia would be still making phones with symbian s60. admit it or not. apple just raised the bar for making great friendly ui and admirable electronics.

Well as the title of the post says "Goodbye N900", I'll be selling my N900 and getting an iPhone 4. I got the N900 when it first came out with everyone telling me to get an iPhone, I remember thinking that the N900 looked so cool, had bags of potential and was different from the masses. Well, its been 5 long months and i've wanted to like the N900 sooo much but I just can't... Its a terrible phone with so many issues.. Lack of Portrait mode, mms, simple functions while on calls to name just a few. I know its suppose to be a internet tablet first and a phone second but I feel it fails all round. Its a shame cos I still feel its got a lot of potential from the hardware side of things and that its open source, and maybe with the usability issues ironed out, it could be a great phone. But with lack of support from Nokia, and although all developers do a great job with apps trying to make the phone more user friendly etc, it still does not cut it for me. I suppose the only good thing about me getting the N900 is that it stopped me buying the 3GS, @ least I'll be able to get the new version now. Adios Amigos!
