When one is using the media player (e.g. listening to music) then the notification sound for received email/sms/im is a simple beep with some preset volume rather than the notification sounds (and volume) that are set up as part of the general profile.
This is all very fine except when one is listening to music through very efficient headphones. In the case the preset volume of the beep can be so loud (depending on the headphones) that the beep is actually painful!
I have tried finding the offending beep audio file in order to replace it with some lower volume one but haven't had any success in locating the file. It does not seem to be in /usr/share/sounds where other system sound files are located.
Does someone know where the beep audio file is located or know if there is some configuration file that can be modified to lower the volume of the notification beep?
