Thanks for the compliment, glad it works for you. This was something I learn from being HTPC buff which my HTPC is based on linux, so when mplayer got ported over to the IT I discovered that you could play Internet streams the exact same way.

I wondering if there is a way to configure opera so that it just calls mplayer instead of nokia's player for any internet stream...hhhhhmmmmm...have to look into that one further.

YES, PLEASE! Calling of applications upon type by the Browser should be configurable, somwhere... In windows I would find the quickly, but I am not into Linux at all, sorry...
Another thought: there are some GUIS and SKINS for Mplayer, are those also ported to IT or do we have to rebuild the Mplayer install file with the GUI included?

audioworld & bac522,

I've tried the xtrem/mplayer method on two stations, one is a mms stream and the other is a rm stream, using the suggested command in osso-xterm. I couldn't get either of them to work.

For the first stream (mplayer -vo null -cache 256 -playlist rtsp://mrbi.live79.com/kmrb), I received the following error message: STREAM_LIVE555, URL: rtsp://mrbi.live79.com/kmrb
Segmentation fault.

For the second stream (rtsp://rthk4.rthk.org.hk/redundant/radio1.rm), everything seems to work:
Connecting to server rthk4.rthk.org.hk[59.188.18.228]: 554...
Cache size to 256 KByts.

I can get mplayer to play an RTSP, but I am wondering what friendly front end there might be... for example, I've been creating m3u's with shotucast streams that the built-in audio player will play. but, it won't do .ram files... .e.g

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,BBC News
#http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/me...5min_au_nb.ram
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/worldservice/summary5min.ra?BBC-UID=b457b5c4d9539f8eece6484df0402a69a6baca8db08020 639bda7f3d8c267cdd_n&SS

if I feed the rtsp to mplayer using the command line, it will play, but built-in won't touch either of the above, kmplayer will read the .ram, find the rtsp but not play!

thanks for any ideas
Paul
