i really have to wonder why people keep mentioning the n8..the n8 has two advantages: 1) the camera and the apps. and thats about it. everything else is a step back from what the n900 has to offer. even the UI is really limited in terms of how you can customize it.

before buying the n900 i was really worried du to many comments posted on this site. many people here have an agenda and will mislead you. from my experience i can say that buying the n900 was the best decision i made and i dont regret it a second.

having said that you should read through possible reasons that might be an issue for you like the email client, nokias horrible info policy/ovi store etc.

turn by turn is solved by using the sygic app (needs to be bought though)

buy it just to piss off everyone who says don't buy it.

Can you afford to buy a new phone at the end of this year and do you need something as powerful as the n900 between now and then? Buy it. No? Don't.

I bought my N900 on a two year contract about 3 days before the MeeGo announcement, and at that time I felt utterly shafted. But now, a few months later I'm loving it and can't imagine wanting any other device out of what is currently available. It's a phone that's a hobby!

I am looking at the N8, but for my wife, not for me. I'd like her to have access to some of the cool always connected 'user features' of my N900 without the ridiculous smartphone battery life and 'temperamentalness' (made up word).

I own the N800 and like it a lot.

What I don't like about the N900 is:
*no official Meego
*no USB Host mode (yet)
*No turn by turn Navigation

There is no official info of the release day of the first Meego phone, is it? I dont want to wait too long for a new Phone because I still use the 3410

Another option would be an Android Phone. But without a jailbreak it is quite unusable, isn't it? Any recommendation for an Android Phone with an real Keyboard, USB OTG or USB host mode, GPS and 3G? How open are these Android Phones? How about own software?

btw. where are the developers who are trying to implementate the USB host mode now doing their discussion?

edit:
who on earth put the "iphonlase 4 ftw" tag?!
edit2:
Iphone is no option (yeah I know it can run android)
edit3:
I forgot to mention that I use Linux every day and that I like Linux
Sounds like a rooted (that's the word for jailbreak for Android) is for you. But the problem with Android is not all devices are root(able) or rather the community is not focused enough on every device to do so.

If you want a root-able Android phone with a keyboard (and you are in the USA). Try the Droid. But it's only on Verizon. I think it also has USB OTG. Or that's what my best friend (who has one) is telling me. It's further along than the USB OTG project on the N900.

The HTC Evo 4G does not have a keyboard, but I think it's already rooted as well. However it's only on Sprint, and has no keyboard.

mm
the Milestone (or Droid) is nice. but there is no driver support for mass storage (yeah usb otg is working...)
So No way to mount a mass storage...
Also I'm missing that I cant listen to radio or tranmit my music.
But it has multi touch :P and more apps.
For the Droid there is an unofficial rom with android 2.2 an flash 10 out, but not for the milestone. (I need it for the miestone because I don't life in USA)
Another problem of the milestone is the bad keyboard.

I dont realy think this is an device for me.

Btw is it officially confirmed that there is no flash 10 for the n900? wasn't there an presentation of adobe with the n900?
