I'll say it again, you don't need to modify any part of the N900's hardware to enable host mode, it works, it's been working for weeks. It just needs to be made user friendly and have the required software drivers for your USB peripherals ... Do you understand?
OK underdstand but please drop the sarcasm ok!.

There wasn't any sarcasm in his post, may I suggest you go read up on the definition of sarcasm after rereading what tswindell has said.

EDIT: Well, apart from the 'Mr Engineer' bit ;-p

abill_uk, no offence, but I don't believe you. All you've done is talk about your supposed success, we've not seen a screen cast or anything to prove you've done it.

Also, your posts are generally badly formulated and don't sound at all like they come from anyone with an ounce of experience. Which is why every one thinks you're full of garbage.

Try backing up your assertions with actual evidence and fact once in a while, you might get a better reception.

No matter what the situation, let's keep it clean.

abill_uk, modification to the hardware certainly isn't a trifle. If you could provide us with photos, or other real-life visual documentation, we're all happy, right?

Well... That's not what we're talking about. We said you don't need hardware changes for Host mode at 200mA. At no points did we dispute that OTG needs hardware changes.

for a short update:
Not user friendliness is the problem, but the fact working hostmode was a random success not reproducible with 49 out of 50 peripherals. So ATM we try to completely reimplement the whole hostmode parts in kernel, in a clean way, as the kernel where we had the 1 of 50 success was a complete botch created solely for purpose of testing.
So things as they are right now: we know it *can* work, but we got no really working solution.
We don't need hardware changes.
We don't need beta testers.
We are not after OTG

We need kernel developers who *really* know their way around in files like
http://mxr.maemo.org/fremantle/sourc...sb/musb_core.c
Any help welcome. For DEVELOPERS: project name is h-e-n

My apologies if there might have been over-enthusiastic statements about "hostmode to arrive in 7 days now", but that's how things are in sw development real life - sometimes you do a sudden step ahead, and then other times you run into tarpits and no real progress.

Enjoy your N900, hostmode will come eventually, and when it does you for sure won't miss the event, and it will make your day . Of course any major progress will be brought to your knowledge in this thread.

cheers
jOERG

Go and buy it now!

But wait to use them, because host mode don't work in a user-stable-way yet
