can someone tell me how to open home/user/apps/dosbox (or something of the sort)?

How do you mean open it?

In Xterm?
Code:
$ cd /home/user/apps/dosbox/
to see the files in there:

$ ls
or with more details:
Code:
$ ls -la
__________________

how do i edit the files in that directory?

You can use "vi", a text based editor but it's not for the faint-hearted!

Or use leafpad (install it first via the app manager), then
Code:
$ leafpad file-to-edit.txt
