I think the (discounted) price is close enough to the acceptable spot, or even sweet spot, for a 'tinkering' device. Look at froyo running speedily on it.

You just have to know what to expect, and adjust your expectations.

So, typically knowing the discussion has happened already means you've already found the old discussions and read them, and you now have specific UNANSWERED questions.

What were those? Because I am very sure we have covered all the general questions you sorta asked in your post.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. Try search, it's amazing.

not sure which is worse:

android device with 2.0 while 2.2 is out and your manufacturer wont update

or maemo device with no update at all

seems like the former is quite frustrating for some out there. if you have nexus one you don't really have that problem but any other android device and you are more than likely stuck with what came on it. you can always 'try' some half cooked roms with updates though

Well....

The first Debian distro I used was slink. During that time people asked what's the future ahead of slink....then there's potato. People then asked what's the future ahead of potato....then there's woody. People then asked what's the future ahead of woody....then there's sarge. People then asked what's the future ahead of sarge...then there's etch.

Now, when you asked what's the future ahead of maemo....

MeeGo is coming instead of Maemo.

This means that not just you get a newer version of the system (which even Android manufacturers can't do), but you'll have a whole new operating system alltogether!

yeah i know, and looking forward to it

i was just using worst case scenario since the OP seemed to hold up android as an example to follow.

A sentence with the words 'maemo' and 'future' does not make any sense.

Lol, I'm sure the same will happen with MeeGo. First two updates will full of crap (hello PR1.2) and then a whole line (device and OS) will be dumped.
Let's make stakes.

But I guess Nokia has said they would not officially support the idea of MEEGO being installed as an Full Fledged OS on the N900.
So would it be a wiser idea, decision to have it on N900. When no one knows how compatible and efficently will it work ?
