Hello.

I was wondering if using the applications from Maemo.org will void the warranty of N900? I see plenty of useful (more useful than OVI stores) here, but am hesitating to use them if they don't come along with the warranty very well.

So how is it, safe to use them?

It will not void the warranty. However, be careful using stuff from the Extras Testing repository and only use apps from the Extras Devel repository if you're willing to undo any possible problems.

IOW:
Maemo.org = safe, well tested
Maemo Extras Testing = some risk, but probably ok
Maemo Extras Devel = higher risk, for experienced users only

There is a power user's kernel, primarily for overclocking, that should void the warranty if used for overclocking. I have wondered if it would void the warranty if NOT used for overclocking, since it does have other uses, such as undervolting, but have never seen a conclusive statement on that issue.

Thank you for the fast responses, this clears up things a lot. Many of the apps on this site are something you can't find on the OVI store.

Extras testing is the more stable, it's there for developers to go through the process of peer review and promote to maemo.org Extras for end users.
