okay now i get error

/sbin/preinit: line 368: /sbin/fiasco-do-update: not found
/sbin/preinit: line 368: cannot open dev/console: no such file
kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

someone needs to write up clear noob-friendly step-by-step instructions

if you extracted without being root thats why you have to be root to extract files

i cannot find any way to open folder as root

I can do it as admin, and it seems to work - but obviously does not

yea erebooting server at min, looks like a bit of minor file courrption . what os are you using f2thak

that'll b why, the tarbz2 wont extract properly through windows

yes but im following "http://wiki.nitdroid.com/index.php?title=N900-install"

so im using virtualbox -> linux mint

etc
