Here are few ideas I have for simplifying the UI:
- no need for exit -button: can be done via fullscreen (or power button etc).
- no need for the x/y information - I really dont know why I would need to know, if my contact is the 23th of 234 or not? Makes a lot of noise to the UI.
- search -bar to the bottom of the screen. This is more common way and works better when non-fullscreen mode.
- change buttons to icons

This way you can fit all the buttons in one line. Also in portrait mode.
Hmmm!
1. I have already changed the UI signifacantly, and soon i'll release a new version, i'll take into consideration you suggestions!
I like some of them very much! thanks for the tips!
2. Soon there will also be integration with fast sms

New version 0.7-6 is hereby released!

This is mainly a bug-fix version with some UI improvements.
Stay tuned, the upcoming version should include integration with fastSMS to allow sending sms messages.

Hi,

Is there any chance you get this to find contacts via number, so for example if I type 078... it brings all contacts with 078 in the number? (anywhere within the number not just the start)

Thanks

Well it's very easy to implement it, but that would cause the appearance of a lot more buttons, causing the letters to get smaller, minimizing the effectiveness I was aiming for when I wrote this app.
What I am thinking, is :
People are asking me to add search options, Each and his own preference - I think I will add a little window that will allow configuring which fields should be searched for the text inserted.
This way, each user can set his own fields like : First Name, Last Name, E-mail, Company, Phone number, what ever

How does that sound?

i see what you mean, i was probably ignoring the keyboard issues and thinking, youd just type the number in to the box, this will would then just filter your contacts, but suppose i'm not really thinking about the big picture.

You could have a configurable option, or a drop down menu that asks how you wish to search, if you choose by 'tel number' you get numbers, if you choose 'letters' you get the letters how it is now?

Just an idea.

I did find a bug though, in my contact list (in your program) at the bottom I have quite a lot of 'No Name' contacts.

p.s have you tried having a look at the symbian version to see how they save space with the keyboard etc??

That would be limiting as you are not offering any other filter like company, e-mail, facebook whatever.
So What I AM going to allows is a checkbox next to each option, and you will be able to configure the wanted fields as you like.

About symbian, thanksfully, I no longer have one. So I have not seen how they save space there

No name are contacts without names, but with telephone numbers.
