Sorry to inform you my friend that you have bought a grey market piece since the official Nokia N900 you buy in India are only available as Made in China. Please rush to your priority dealer or call Nokia helpline and confirm the genuineness of your model.

Vivek,

I don't think your understanding is correct. I got one of the 'first day phone' from a priority dealer in India. The dealer called me as soon as he received the stock of 10 phones. I saw the lot in his office as he was entering the list in his PC and picked one. It's a Korean make. My warranty also is registered.

One more thing I wanted to add related to this thread is I downloaded the global firmware and flashed it. It has got integrated skype. I was able to make Video call over 3G and Wi-Fi. That is the main reason I bought this model.

regards
MRaj

They knew that this phone was taking a bit all over the world as this was just "still" in its test phase and yet they released the phone 7months late with much higher costs.. wow..

its not only the govt...

Glad atleast skype works for video calling, but we still are dependent on the fact that the person on the other end also needs to have skype if we need to make a video call, why didnt nokia include video calling a feature like in other phones and make skype optional??

Skype has everything to do with regulations. Have a look at this link if you like. Basically Skype encrypts calls and India doesn't like it.

From the article:
DoT officials said popular internet telephony firm Skype would also be given a 15-day deadline to ensure that calls carried by it to and from India are in formats that could be intercepted by law enforcement agencies here.
