ive never experienced that, sometimes i hear my chat tone instead of the sms tone, and my email refreshes only when it feels like it!
apart from that everything works as it should and is always awesome!

I had this after upgrading to PR1.2. Solution for me was to remove el.db from ~/rtcomm-eventlogger folder and wait a few hours. The phone on 1.2 seems to use the el-v1.db and mine may have suffered some temporary corruption. I'm not sure what made it go away

Thanks for telling me. My comments - N900 has a lousy interface that wasn't tested. The reply to the SMS should "stick out" rather than being hidden unless you click on the message you sent. After all if you left the phone in a room, came back, had a reply, you wouldn't have a clue that you received the reply if you didn't hear the audible signal. Even if you "went through" your SMSs. It is incompetently designed and tested. This is not "threading" in my books - threading implies indentation - not hiding.

2) & 3) sound more like a SIM/network issue than the phone
It works perfectly on other Nokia phones with the same SIM. This phone has not been tested getting off aircraft, powering up, going into online mode......

4) try the Call forwarding app
Why should I have an add an app to do a basic GSM feature using the keyboard routine (that is universal) that has existed since GSM was invented. Apps typically screw up devices - I avoid them at all costs.

5) bluetooth works fine for me
Bluetooth used to work for me with the software that came with the phone. It stopped pairing when i updated the firmware. I can still connect to legacy stuff that I paired with before I updated the software. But I can't add new bluetooth hardware - even the Nokia BH-905 headset I bought the other day for €200. Useless. Won't pair. I have been a Nokia customer for decades. Now I hate the company after the N900.

6) It is what it is. Not sure how podcasts are handled in Mediabox and KMplayer but you should check these out if you are dissatisfied with stock media player.
I have the same problem with Windows -v- other more intelligent software. Windows tries to keep forcing one to keep stuff in "my documents" or whatever. More intelligent software would learn from the last file you saved and propose saving to the same directory.

Perhaps I am expecting a Porsche from ejits who make GM or Renault cars - but it doesn't cost a cent when making software to be customer friendly.

7) There is an applet (can't remember the name) to switch the n900 into tablet mode i.e. wifi only
Again why should I have to use an applet for this simple task. My old Nokia N95 would let me use WiFi while offline from the cellular network. Nokians have given up using their brains - the N900 lot anyway.

I never have problems using WiFi at these hotels with my PC. Why doesn't the N900 work on the same basis?

If Steve put the Iphone 4 antenna behind a plastic cage I might try it. Your understanding of "pro" and mine and at variance. What do you understand by "pro"? Broken? Untested? Requiring "Band aid"?

I'm serious here: I bought a 3 months old used N900 in february. I haven't seen any serious bugs in Maemo yet. I don't deny their existence: it is just interestingly coincidental that all the people who don't even know how to use their device find all sorts of weird bugs, yet it has worked fine for me always.

I also slide the keyboard in and out several times a day, and it doesn't show any sign of becoming loose, nor do I experience any of the bugs in these whining threads.
My posting is not "flamebait". I have been a Nokia customer for over a decade. The N900 is the first phone that left me down, seriously. It is half baked. There seems to me to be several versions of the N900 - eg when one does an update, there is a test to see if your hardware will take the update. I have never had a problem with the keyboard - didn't mention keyboards.[/quote]

As for your questions:
First, reflash your device with PR 1.2 (the eMMC too), then read the posts above mine.
All the information you need is provided here.
Why should I have to re-flash? The flashing appeared from messages to work properly. While I might re-try a flash, I question why I should have to.....

dude, you shouldn't have to, that's not the point. the point is, your phone seems very screwed up. it has problems (wifi and bluetooth) that sound like hardware issues and we want you to try that before we outright tell you to call nokia and tell them it's broken!
also, your SIM card could be ******ed. I just switched providers and the phone acts really weird with this new SIM, I can't switch to 2G mode and it renames the 3rd party carriers to "WIND Away". Sometimes I have to reboot it several times because it gets stuck on the wrong one.

If you don't want to install apps then N900 is not the phone for you. Turkishflavor is right in all perspective that N900 is not for people like you. 'Pro' is exactly the kind of people would take the liberty to tackle problems themselves, and you're on the other side of the scale that expect someone else do the job for you just because you think you paid them enough to do so, and whine when not satisfied.

Nokia might let people like you down, because N900 is the first phone Nokia made right. The root of the problem is not in N900, it's you, you and you.

When people try to help you out by giving you suggestions, don't ask them why. They're not your father or mother, whom would expect your why. Be nice to them.

I understand your sentiments. The Bluetooth used to work OK until I updated my firmware (makes me think software issue) and the sound is OK - hasn't changed. This makes me think the problem is software related.

Looking at the Nokia website, they don't really seem to want to hear from customers. Closing up to customers is probably why Nokia is having problems. They don't know what is going on, what problems people are having etc. One has perhaps to put an "anti-Nokia N900" website up, with Googlejuice to make these Finlanders wake up. Else the company will go out of business and Apple and Google will take over mobile worldwide.

Why this?

It's obviously not going to find any service providers because you put the darn thing in offline mode before you switched it off. It will remember that mode for the next time you boot, so you will need to put it back into phone mode when you power up again.

Whereas if you just powered down it would detect the networks as soon as you powered up.

Think of Windows. You mute your speakers before you shut the PC down. Next time you boot up the speakers are going to be muted.

"Offline" mode is "Flight" mode. No matter what happens it is not connected to the network (no calls can be received or made) but the device can still be used like a normal laptop. Your service provider will detect when you put the phone into "Offline" mode and will not attempt to forward any calls until it gets an "Online" signal again from your device.

I know geez, no need to be so combative to people that are just trying to help.

I am perfectly open. I use Linux on PCs. I shouldn't have to buy an app or tinker with the product to get off a plane and find my N900 working properly. Or divert calls on my terms. Or see incoming text messages and missed calls because the events are highlighted to me rather than being hidden. This has nothing to do with "the type of phone for you" stuff. This is basic 123.
