I think daddeddad meant that it would be nice to use themes without actually installing them. I guess it wouldn't be too hard to make a program which extracts tarballed theme into some temporary theme folder (and also checks that the folder structure is correct) and you could then choose the theme from the theme selection menu. But I don't know if the "Import tarball" selection can be added straight into the theme menu.

One thing that I really like in gnome is the ability to drag a tarball to appearances to install new themes. It would be great if this was possible to do in the n900 too. An app that lets you import a tarball in the theme selection-menu.
This would be good for the following reasons:
1. Easy to test a theme for developers.
2. Easy to share and try out for collaboration.
3. Noobs like me could contribute and make good stuff, at least I will not make any themes right now since it is too many obstacles, and the process is time-conuming. But if this was possible, I surely would make 2-3 nice themes.
I do now that keeping stuff in the regular software chanels has its pros but this would ease the process and we could maybe also get a sub-section over att opendesktop.org.
How about it?
