Just was thinking about widgets and i thought why is there no "Phone" widget which occupies the desktop and has numbers to dial directly instead of opening the phone application and selecting the dialpad..

What do you guys think?

Useful?

Possible?

^ +1 would save a lot of time.. !
plus can anyone make a hack for the proximity sensor to remain on..cause its a real pain the sunlight.. like an option in the dash board to keep the proximity sensor open or close...so when u go in the sun you can put it to open mode and you wont miss any calls...pls!

I suppose that could be done with Queen Beecon Widget >=0.1.9.x but have not much time now
1 widget for phone display and basic [clear], [backspace] and [dial] buttons
12 widgets for 0-9 numbers and * #
Inter-widget IPC, params substitution variables and DBUS method-call when number is ready will then do the rest
You'll also be able to skin your dialer at some extent.
I'll see when I can find some spare time if "critical-mass" of users is interested.

I use horizontal call app seems to do what you are describing.

Edit: Oops widget ok this is an app and only works with existing contacts no dial pad option but great for in the car quick dial.

Could also try the app dialcentral however, still app not widget.

First attempt in the scratchbox ... click on picture for video

tomorrow I'll try to port it to the phone ... dbus-send for issuing call is already in place but doesn't produce anything in scratchbox
