I am more familiar with chkconfig but I did find and try to work with the update-rc.d equivalent that I found in easy debian. I was hoping for example that after installing mysql server/client via apt-get that I could make the service start every time I start easy debian. I do run the update-rc.d mysql enable and I said it did something to the scripts, but every time I start easy debian I must manually start mysql (and apache).

So it this because due to running in a chroot, those scripts are never even read? if so is there a way to make them get read or another place to reference them so I can have services enabled at startup?

thanks for listening.

You must create / edit scripts on Maemo in order to start them up with the device. Use "debbie" to forward commands to the Easy Debian chroot

If by app you mean the LXDE desktop, locate the files that are executed upon starting LXDE.

thanks, not sure I get it, by apt-get I just meant for instance that I installed mysql via apt-get install in debian. but I can't have it start when I start debian (either by hitting the debian icon on my desktop or by running "debian" command from maemo terminal. I am not doing anything with the debian desktop, just trying to use debian like it was a real server, from the command line, and like I said, I am trying to have services I have installed on debian such as mysql server, start automatically when I switch to the debian chroot environment.

I'm not sure how I would create scripts in the maemo envirorment that would act upon the debian /etc/init.d scripts, ie having them start automatically when the chroot environment is up. I guess my title is a bit misleading...I don't mean "app" like a graphical tool, I mean app like a networking service running in debian.

ok so if I already have a mysql startup scripts in free debian...actually 2, I have the sym link in /etc/rc2.d and the actual script in /etc/init.d....

I am from within in maemo, to recreate both of those scripts and type debbie scriptname? and then debian will be aware of those scripts?
