I've managed to merge my awb files. I used FormatFactory. It doesn't say that it supports merging of awb files, but it does. Unfortunately, nQaap is not able to resume the book where I leave it off. If I convert the file to mp3 it will become approx 4x bigger...

EDIT: My mistake. It is possible to resume .awb files.

I wonder if its a file format restriction that resuming isn't supported. I noticed some of my files didn't support resuming and I suspect its a limitation in file format support in the underlying framework (GStreamer).

Ogg/Speex are also options to look at but it won't be great converting from one low bit-rate format to another.

Correction!

I just tried my MP3 file (82Mb) and resume worked fine. Then I tried my awb file again (17Mb). Lo and behold! It resumed!! I think it was my error. When I launched nQaap, I expected the slider to be positioned where I left off, instead it shows that it is at the beginning of the file. Once I actually listened to the content, I realized that it was indeed resuming where I left off! So it might have been working all the time...

Another small wish (if possible, of course) would be to display the current position in the file and the total length, e.g., 1h 23m 52s / 2h 30m 15s.

Now I'll proceed to convert all my books. As I listen to different kinds of content, I'll be keen to see if the app is able to resume where I left off for multiple books, or only for the last one I listened to.

Hey, are you also reading a book while listening to the audio for it?

If so, what program are you using?

Now that I'm using it, I have another suggestion. For language learning, it would be nice to be able to go back 3-5 seconds with the click of a button to repeat a word or phrase. This might actually be useful for other purposes as well... Multile clicks would take you further back. Using the slider will not be as good as you'd probably end up moving a lot more than needed.

Sorry... It's me again... Seems that the 'hardware' volume controls don't work for nQaap once the screen is switched off. They do work for the default media player. As I mainly use the app in public transport the ambience noise level is quite variable and it would be useful to adjust the volume without having to switch on the screen.

I want to chime in and vote for the volume control to work with the screen off. It would really make a difference.
Also for the "Back x seconds" button. I don't know how you'd do this, the screen looks pretty full as it is.

I want to say again, I use this app every day, without fail. I used to pull out the iPod for audiobooks, but this app makes the N900 better.

Every app I work on I make sure can work on the Desktop, Maemo 4.1, and Maemo 5.

Very cool app, thank you.

A few comments:

1) When i first started it up, it said "Select a book to start listening.", but there were no books presented. Of course, i pulled up the menu and found the audiobook button, but it might be good to open that dialog directly if there is no book open.

2) The title bar at the top of the Audiobook:selection menu (and all the others), says FMRadio. I realize this is probably due to the FMRadio trick to get around the silent profile limitations, but just thought i'd mention it.

Regarding the request for variable-speed playback (a feature i'd really like to see, too), i found http://scaletempo.sourceforge.net/0/task-list.html, which is an efficient speed-adjustment module that has a plugin for gstreamer: http://www.gstreamer.net/data/doc/gs...caletempo.html

That's as far as i got with that as i have no gstreamer experience, but it seems a step in the right direction.

Thanks again for the useful app!
