I was wondering how other peoples "work on the go" (3g) setups are like.

do you use vnc, remote desktop, NX?
have you setup a VPN?
do you use rsync to take your work with you?
do you just do everything on the N900?

I'd really like to hear how others do. their complete setup to work on the go.

Well i take care of the server and about 7 PCs here at work, i just install Rdesktop on the n900 make sure all PCs have Remote Assistance ticked and enabled, i go tru Rdesktop input all the Ip address's for each PC so i work narrow down which one i need to connect to. It works perfect over 3g 2g its slow as but 3.5g is pretty much like being on Wifi connection is fast and stable.

I VPN in to the office network and reach several sites via browser (I have some web pages set up especially to deliver me some database info, others are part of our systems). I do some command line work via ssh. I haven't found rdesktop to be too useable, but it does work in a pinch.

Mostly I email and IM on the go, and make use of the above to answer questions or take quick actions as needed.

well, I am, so I'm with you there.

I too haven't found rdesktop too useable when I travel for my case. Mostly because on my commute I take the underground and a constant connection isn't always there, but for a working lunch in the park or other odd times away from the office it's good to have.

I think rsync would be better there. A setup to sync files, work on them offline, then commit when you're back.

I always wanted to use it as a full blown computer. Connect bluetooth Keyboard & mouse, and tv out to a monitor.

I just use OpenOffice in EasyDebian to write whatever I need to write whenever I have the time. If I have PDFs to read for class (or for work) I can annotate them in Xournal.
