Hi! I've read many online articles about 2gb rs mmc cards on the nokia 770, some say the internet table os 2006 supports 2gb rs mmc cards, some give impression that the kernet on the internet tablet os 2006 still needs to be patched...so, what's the real 411?
Under Control Panel --> Device --> About Product

mine says:
Internet Tablet OS 2006 Edition
Version: 3.2006.49-2

do I have to do anything to have 2gb rs mmc support for my nokia 770? Thank you!!!!!!

goto this page...

http://maemo.org/community/wiki/applicationcatalog2006/

look for this string 'Linux Nokia770-26 + IPv6 + Ext2 + MMC 2GB support'

you need to have that to have 2GB RS-MMC support on the 770

Your installed "official" OS version has "native" support. Just install a formatted 2GB MMC card and you're ready go. I'm happy running the same OS version with a 2GB Mobile Kingston card. I also configured the "memory" to provide a 64MB cache.

Installing the "Nokia770-26 + IPv6 + Ext2 + MMC 2GB" gives you extra stuff, plus faster MMC access - I think?? Read its description to see if you really need all that.

For 2GB support you don't need anything. Also the -26 kernel is for -26 firmware, such kernel is not suitable for -49 firmware.

Only if you want faster read and write speed you may try some kernel with mmcplus patches. Either the -39 one from Application catalog or http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/#mmcplus (kernel in -39 and -49 firmwares is almost same) or the one based on -49 kernel source here http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...0004#post50004

A newbie owner (came today - opened the box 5 mins ago!) and I'll be putting the hacker edition on asap .........one thing though, I presume my 2GB RS MMC (coming tomorrow) will work with the hacker edition?

Cheers

........just to confirm the N770 works great with a 2gb card....os2006 and hacker edition - the card doesn't need to be dual voltage either.

WORKS! Let me share my experience with 2gb support problem in Nokia 770. I tried different things; flashing kernels from linux machines and from the unit itself etc with no luck. and i knew that the card is good, because I could format it using my PC which has built-in media reader and could copy files to it. Then I started thinking that it's gotta be the way the card sits in the unit, so I pushed my 2gb kingston card to the memory slot, but not all the way so that it does NOT click in place (which normally you would do), then closed the cap. It is important to close the cap otherwise unit wont even try to read the memory. And I got the "Memory card available" message and I confirmed the card size (1.89GB). My buddy had the same problem and I explained him what to do over the phone, it is working for him too now. You dont need to install/flash anything to make 2GB cards work on your unit which runs OS 2006 versioned 3.2006.49-2. Unless you want it to run faster. And by the way, I got it from buy.com. I hope this works for other people out there still trying to make this work.
cheers,
jay
