That's where your problem lies. I removed all widgets, anything that keeps your busy while on standby will kill your battery. For example, I am seeing that the regular IMAP on Modest email client does worse than Nokia Messaging!

Hildon-desktop (or Hildon-home?) is also one process that might be keeping processor busy all the time. Fix by reflash..

Yes, this is a test to do, another test is to use 3G without internet connection active.

I take a look to top and i see that these process are responsible for the activity showed in my image:
1) hildon-desktop: 0.5 - 1.5, all the time
2) hildon-status-menu: 0.5 - 1.5, all the time
3) skyhost: 0.5 - 2 all the time
4) dbus-daemon --system --noforce: 0.5 - 1 all the time
5) gconfd : 0.5 - 1.8, less frequent but frequent.

I don't inserted in this list XOrg.

Shutting down the 3G Internet Connection with the chat, the process 3,5 disappear, the 4 reduced is activity.

Maybe this bug could be related?

I removed all the widget from all the desktop, i only have apps shortcut.

Modest is connecting one time every 30 mins, i think that this is not the cause for the battery killing. See my previous post for a list of the process that are most active.

@Zimmer
I've done a fresh reflash yesterday of the PR 1.2

I don't think that hildon-desktop is your problem, it is taking that 0,5-2 % on my phone too when looked from top.

Well, my next two step will
1) Powertop analysis
2) Undervolted kernel

I really don't have any other idea on how to manage this poor battery life, al least a solution that don't force me to be offline from 3G.

Undervolting is definitely worth it to try.

I made few tests with that 3g, it really is not that good network standard what comes to energy efficiency. If the data connection is on but passive (no data moving) battery will run out in appr. 15-18 hours. If I use the phone as a bluetooth modem and download at maximum rate (44-48 kt/s) all the time batt wont last any longer than 4-5 hours

At least it seems possible for you to improve from that 5-7 hours.

What has worked for me is enabling SMART REFLEX via the terminal commands.
I used to get 4-5hours with moderate to low use. Now i get 14+ hours with heavy to moderate use. Maybe an hours worth of phone calls and TONS of texts, Hundreds of emails(just enabled nokia messaging to see if that helps), about 30minuts of games, at least an hour of music.
Enabling smart reflex really helps with the idle time.

Okay, I have been experimenting and I enabled smartreflex yesterday and this time Nokia N900 just lost about 1% battery idling with WiFi through the night (8-pm to 7 am), about 11 hours. Even more amazing! Not sure how it will affect my use time, but standby is wow!

Here's what I did in the shell:
root
echo 1 > /sys/power/sr_vdd1_autocomp
echo 1 > /sys/power/sr_vdd2_autocomp

PS: See the break in the batteryeye graph, strange aye? That's when I enabled smartreflex :-)
