Hey all,

I am looking into picking up a n900 to use in a manner similar to my existing n800 - without any cellular service. I've searched the boards some to no avail. Will the n900 even boot without a SIM Card? I am reading through the manual now, and not surprisingly this isn't covered in detail.

I'm planning on using the n900 as an audio player, a podcast aggregator, video player and tablet mobile web consumption device.

Considering I am at home and work for the vast majority of my day (with WiFi available at both) I'm happy with using it with WiFi only, if it would work.

Your impressions? Anyone rolling without cellular service of any sort?

Yes. You dont need a SIM card at all. When I travel abroad I usually put the phone on "Tablet Mode" (using an app from extras) and use the local wifi in restaurants/airports to make skype/gtalk calls. Works fantastically.

Afaq, don't you have to be "online" to download the tablet/phone software from the repo? OOHh.....shizzle....just remembered you could download it on to a PC and transfer across.....my apologies....silly me
