What's your screen brightness set to? I (rarely) use mine above 3 and often use 2 as it is bright enough to use comfortably. A bright screen will use use a lot of power.

I am doing some experiments with battery monitoring at present. I have some theories but want to gather data first. My N900 is currently on day 3 without a charge, over 50 hours now. At 90% at the end of the first day, down to 20% now. This is with making calls, sending receiving texts, wifi browsing, some 3G browsing, downloading apps, playing games. I don't have wifi discovery or autoconnect switched on, and the wifi power is set to 10mAh.

This is with PR1.2, default theme, not overclocked, and about a dozen or so applications loaded from the main repositories - not using -extras or -devel at all yet.

All good so far.

Device has been almost completely in standby except some minor tasks like checking the charge, so I don't know if it can make a change

It is set to the lowest setting though.

i found fmms to be my main problem. v1 was the first to end the drain, then an update brought it back. then the drain went, came back and the latest fmms fixed it. this is the last time im updating it now.
as far as i can tell the new firmware has helped. i got 12hours pretty heavy browsing today and still got two bars left

Any tricks to try?

Reflashing should definitely be added to that wiki page! After flashing the standby time jumped to ~180 hours with all the same apps installed!

JohnLF: Do you have WiFi or 3G connection all the time or intermittent please? I cant seem to get more than two days with intermittent wifi/3g use, no calls, no text, brightness of 1...I have now installed auto-dicsonnect, switched off auto-rotate in phone and it "seems" to be better but havent got enough discharge cycles to be able to confirm.

That was very true in my case.

Some process began to load cpu after OTA, and reflashing with same firmware fixed it.

Sursroemming: OTA upgrade does not wipe out your current files, it's purely updating ur OS with the changes the upgrade brings.....whereas flashing I believe is pretty much starting from scratch, like installing a brand new operating system (or at least the same feeling).....and hence makes ur device behave like it has just been brought to life.....provided u flash the emmc as well (the 32gbs or 2 gbs in ur n900)......

I am a complete newbie when it comes to cell phone technology, so I'm going to ask what seems to be a silly question to all those who have commented so far...

What is "reflashin"?

I have Autodisconnect installed and is has made my phone last a couple hours longer then w/o it but I still have to charge my N900 atleast twice a day...

You could compare it to installing operating system again to your computer I guess.

Some instructions:

I did not reset the mass memory but still got the improvement.
