... device that lets you play videogames, functions like a computer, is made of electronics, relies on science and connects to the internet ...
Wait a minute... I thought it was supposed to be magical...

Science magically appeared in that sentence.

Hate tends to show up after one gets extremely tired of something (an idea, a product, etc) you dont really give a damn about, keeps getting shoved in your face no matter what you do to avoid it, or gets presented with ridiculous claimings. Of course this statements might not be exactly true for some people, but, in my experience talking about the ipad with a lot of people, tends to be that way. I even found ipad haters between some self-proclamed apple lovers (ipod/iphone owners, etc).

Also, when you get to spend 30 mins with someone telling you about how revolutionary the device is, and how they think every device in the future of desktop computers is a certain doom in a couple of years, and that a powerful tool (such as flash) that was born a few moments after the birth of the world wide web (and survived through a lot), is going to be dead by next year, thinking that HTML5 is going to kill flash without even knowing wtf HTML5 is, believe you me, you will feel the rage and start to hate. Some people will rage and hate for a while (amount of time always will depend of the desperation for attention of the person), and others, will do for a long time till it gets old, just for trolling.

My main DISLIKE for Apple and their products is the fear it will send us backwards. We have these products up on pedestals as the thing for all companies to aspire to, and frankly, that terrifies me.

There has been a great amount of progress towards open source, and in general free and open, and I'd hate to see that moved backwards due to other companies mimicking the closed source sheep mentality that Apple pushes.

Call it what you will, explain it how you like, but for me personally I fear Apple is suppressing not only freedom in software... but also technology (incorporating old technologies as 'the biggest thing ever' Eg. video calling).

Ps. With great power, comes great responsibility... and (being at the 'top') Apple is abusing this.

This, in itself, is the explanation for my emotional dislike for Apple. The 'brick wall' mentality of many unknowledgeable Apple users that self-proclaim being at the bleeding edge of technology.

I get what you guys are saying, but...

If the hate were based solely on stuff being shoved in your face, I'd almost be driven to a frothy mouthed madness pertaining Linux... and I'm a 14 year user. Each day "Linux can do this... Linux can cure cancer... Linux is the best for ALL OF YOUR USES..." whatnot when... in my case, it's not always the best option in regards to some of my daily operations.

And during the day, it would be Microsoft Windows. I hear so much about Windows "is the best option" yet when I'm hearing this, I'm usually solving people's network problems.

But to me... it's just a tool. Apple is too small of a vendor to influence each and every aspect of computer based aspects and trends.

And the folks that follow each word that Steve Jobs,Torvalds or Ballmer say to the letter... they're sheep.

Then again... stories and quotes like this make it easy to hate:

A new study confirms what we’ve all known from the start...iPad owners are selfish elites. Ouch, selfish elites? Okay, I admit that is a bit harsh, but not as harsh as this quote though:
"As a mainstream, closed-platform device whose major claim to fame is ease of use and sex appeal, the iPad is everything that they are not."

It's decent. But I won't call it revolutionary. And the lack of multi-tasking and the iOS 4 update as well as video conferencing/IM are hindrances to me.

Imagine a PC OS where all you could do was pick one program to run from a list of programs. That's what I see the iPad as. Not for me. I don't hate it but I don't want it either.
