let me clarify what I mean. about 1/4 of the time that I put my n900 in my belt holder (whether or nor I use the side to slide it into locked mode or not btw) when I pull it out the screen is on and the desktop has all its icons with little x's on them meaning they are ready to be deleted. some times they get deleted and I have to put them back.

I don't know if other people have this issue. I wonder if it has anything to do with the "long touch" option that for instance makes the blue (fn) stuff work on long touch on the keyboard. I know a long hold on the desktop does bring up the desktop menu and I wonder if this could be the culprit. anyway I wonder if others have the same issue I do and if there is any way to "fix" it. thanks for listening

do you lock the n900?
just because the screen goes black doesnt mean its locked.
if you dont use the slide you can double-tap the power-button as well.

Does your belt holder have a magnetic catch? I read somewhere on here that magnetic catches in holders/cases can cause issues with the N900 as it uses some magnetic sensors.

Does your belt holder have a magnetic clasp? Most magnetic clasps have been causing the slider sensor to trigger, so the device thinks the keyboard has slid out, and then turns on. This could also cause quick battery drain, as it may leave the backlight on for long periods of time.

Edit: Looks like someone beat me to it.

Yep, that's the one.

I found my battery was draining at a f@rt inducing rate when the phone wasn't in use, i.e tucked away in it's case. Until I realised the case magnet was activating the screen.

thanks guys. first off yes I am usually locking it via the side slider or the top slider.

second yes I am using a magnetic case. I guess that could be the issue thanks much. I guess since I am considering buying the mugen battery I should find out

a) what cases people are using for the regular n900
b) what cases people are using with the mugen

in either case without a magnet.

thanks again.

I use the cp321 although it does not have a belt clip on the reverse.

I keep mine in my jeans pocket.

Clean looking and keeps it safe and sound.

Main complaints about the cp321 are :

Does not have a belt clip/hoop.
Cannot use headfones when n900 is in cp321.
Cant charge it while its in the cp321.

I dont listen to music on mine and I would not even contemplate cooking my n900 by charging it while its encased in a pouch/holster !

thanks I do need a belt look for certain. especially if I get the mugen, no way that is going in my pocket (that would open me up to too many jokes).

I used to get this all the time just in my pocket. I now use the modified hildon-desktop that allows desktop locking (here), and a queen beacon widget with a script that enables / disables desktop editing.
