this stupid sync issue is driving me nuts.
i add contact shortcuts on the desktop and they all disapear along with the contacts when a sync is carried out.
when i resync the contacts return, the shortcuts dont and the birthdays move a day forward.
a very very annoying issue
BUT i do love my N900

After upgrading to PR1.2 and struggling to sync google calendar through MFE, I decided to try out SyncEvolution and am quite pleased and happy with the performance.
One can sync both google contacts and calendar with SyncEvolution without any problems. In fact SyncML sync protocol is more relaxed then ActiveSync/MFE and you can retain all the multiple mobile nos and phone nos per contact for sync through syncml & syncevolution unlike MFE which strips all the multiple nos and retains only one no per field and was the reason I did not even attempt to sync google contacts with MFE.
The latest version of SyncEvolution even lets you automate the process and sync daily automatically which quite sufficient for syncing calendar and contacts.

I personally have tried using the Mail for Exchange app in the Settings menu. I didn't dare do a contacts sync for fear of losing my contacts. But i made a fresh calender on gmail and synced the n900 calendar OK.
Don't think it works with smart entries like birthday's linked to the contacts database on the n900. But otherwise it's a suitable calendar link.
For the sake of sanity probably best to let the default email app handle email with imap.

Syncing Gmail Calendar(Web) <-> Thunderbird(Lightning)PC <-> iCal(MacBook) <-> N900 without any problems. Works great. Able to note appointments in every calendar and all synced automatically with each other. Like my own "cloud"

search for ERMINIG...1 calendar sync both ways with a google,com/a/ free edition.

Thanks for clarification, I see where you are going from. Does seem odd that they can get it to work on symbian but not N900. Guess I will just have to pony up the $25 a year for Nuevasync for now. Maybe by next year this will be fixed and I can use Nokia's native client for free.
Now if only I could find a similar way to sync with my local KDE desktop and do away with Google and the cloud at all...

This doesn't work for my google again, the sync always fails :-(

I found that only Full Sync will work. Auto-sync triggered by scheduler is not working. Anyone have solution other than using NuevaSync?
and NuevaSync is free.....an not sure if everybody knew.
