Right guys'n'gals.

Just got in contact with ProclipUSA asking them the following questions:
1) Do you make any proclips for the Nokia N800 internet tablet?
2) Are there any that would fit the tablet?

Their response:

Yaz:

We are currently still in production on these parts. Our manufacturer has listed them on their website, so it should only be another 3-4 weeks until they are completed.

I will add you to our notification list for this holder. As soon as it is ready for sale you will receive an email.

Best Regards,

So there you go - a 3rd party manufacturer for car mounts willing to create one for the N800

No need to wait for the CR-84 (or was it 86?) + CR-12 universal mount to be available (which is most likely never as Nokia seem to be ignoring any requests for info!)

Looks like I may be selling an N770 car mount in a month's time

Here is some additional info from Proclip that I received today.

Our manufacturer actually just finished making the holders for the Nokia N800, and we ordered them early today. We expect to see them in the next week or two and will be adding them to the website the instant we get them in stock. If you would like, I could get you set up for e-mail notification on these items and that way you'll be the first to know when these items have been released. Let me know if that's something you would be interested in and we can add you to the notification list right away! If you didn't want to get on the notification list and just wanted to check yourself now and then you can look below, I've included the item numbers for you even though they aren't on the website quite yet:

848757 - Holder with Tilt Swivel
968757 - Holder with Tilt Swivel and Cigarette Lighter Charger

Thank you for your interest in our products.
Looks like this should be available soon.

Nice one would like to know how good it is.

My plans have changed slightly since seeing Nokia's (slightly crappy) car installs. I'm half pondering fashioning my own car mount to slip flush into the center console in my car out of thermoplastic.

Could you post some "thermoplastic for dummies" links on how to do that?
Thank you.

*grin* I wish I knew myself

The stuff I'm looking at getting is called Polymorph: http://www.mutr.co.uk/catalog/produc...roducts_id=550

There's a PDF instruction sheet there on its usage - it seems pretty straightforward from the outset.

Initial thoughts are to fashion a template of the car centre console with cardboard, wrap the N800 in foil, trying to preserve all the smooth edges, wrap the cardboard template in smooth foil. Push Polymorph around the edges of the cardboard template and before the polymorph cools, push it into the console so it takes the shape of the console. Now leave it there to cool and take form and pull it out again.

Should now have a template "surround" that sits flush in the console, it's a case of filling the innards. Place N800 face down, use more foil and press it around the back of the N800 flattening it out at the edges. Place surround dead center and fill in the middle, pushing the polymorph out around the N800.

That's sortof the gist of what I have in mind, and hopefully if the stuff is like putty it'll go smoothly. It's just a case of filling in any imperfections, sanding the surface down to remove any further imperfections, priming it, and painting it. N800 hopefully sits into it flush and that'd be that.

The next plan is to then fashion a sort of dual nokia charging and 3.5mm audio connector that swivels from inside of the N800 indent on the right hand side. On the left hand side have a pop-out mechanism similar to the way a ball point pen button works.

That way you slide the N800 into the swivel connectors on the side. N800 swivels into the plastic mount. You "click" the N800 into place (basically pushes the mechanism down and locks it.)

To release - simply click the left hand side, N800 pushes out enough so you can grab it, swivel it and pull it off the connectors.

And a crappy drawing to boot

*sighs* Think it sounds do-able?

Well, that's not exactly what I had in mind (for my car I though of something like a tray, made of plastic or metal sheet).
The site you posted it's really interesting though, now I have to find a friend with a workshop

The proclip device holder for the n800 is now available:

http://www.proclipusa.com/default.asp

I'd like to find out if that device holder can attach to ram-mounts parts, since ram-mounts does not yet have a device holder for the n800.
