As far as I can tell from looking at the FCC report, this tablet does NOT contain WiMax capability. If it did, the FCC would have had to test the RF emissions in the WiMax range (2.5 GHz)and this test does not appear in that report. The test DOES show that they tested WiFi, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth + GPS emissions. This would appear to be a new model of tablet with built-in GPS rather than with WiMax.
It also mentions the following:

1.1. EUT and Accessory Information
The EUT is a Bluetooth and WLAN device. WCDMA band is tested in idle mode. Bluetooth and
WLAN are tested with maximum rated TX power.
WCDMA ???

Yeah, there was a lot of excitement about that phrase, but later in the document it clearly says it's a Bluetooth and Wifi device, with no mention of WCDMA.

I don't know much about these tests, but they must be done to measure radio interference with other devices, and perhaps they wanted to make sure it didn't cause problems with nearby WCDMA phones.

@YoDude and krisse

The FCC tests for the original N800 also have that exact same wording. I believe it is part of their test procedure. I'm stall at work and haven't had a chance to look closely at the docs, but I'm fairly certain that the model posted to the FCC site today does not have WiMax.

It would be neat to discover that this is the version with the keyboard. The GPS alone is enough reason for me to buy this even though I only purchased my N800 last month. I better start saving up!

Edit: link to FCC docs on original N800

Thanks for the heads up dude. I hadn't noticed that. But then again I'm still looking for that dang manual they listed.

There are actually 4 different test reports:
1 for part 15b ( devices for home or office use ),
2 for part 15c ( unlicensed low power transmitters ),
and 1 for SAR report.

The printer, laptop, and digital camera pointed out by timothy in your blogger comments appear to have been tested with the rx-44 device. These devices appear in the "tested devices/accessories" section of the part 15b report and not in test equipment list at the end of each report.

Crossref: didn't we see RX-44 in a teaser pic for the latest firmware release from a R&D-mode device startup picture? The device in the photo looked very much like an N800.

EDIT: My bad, the initfs was RX-44, but the device itself was ID'd as an RX-34. The plot, she thickens...

you can buy GPS receivers with bluetooth interface which are nearly as small as a packet gum, so I'd hold off if I were you until the wimax or keyboard version is available!

Yeah, I've been thinking about picking up one of the bluetooth GPS receivers, but it's just another device to have to keep charged and remember to take with me; it would be nice to have it built into the tablet. I do hope this model also has a keyboard, I might hold off if it doesn't. The fact that Nokia made the external photos confidential makes me think that there must be something significantly different about the hardware interface on this model. I'm not the least bit interested in WiMax since it's not likely to hit my area for years yet.

According to Finnish finance magazine Kauppalehti Nokia is going to release the Wimax edition of Internet tablet next year. (source:
WiMAX World Conference. September 25 - 27, 2007)

Nokia also said it will use Intel's WiMAX silicon product, which is codenamed "Baxter Peak". Also Mozilla-based browser is included on the device (default browser).

There are some 15 WiMax operators in Finland spread throughout the country.
