it is unclear how you removed your Media Player. Therefore, I would suggest to flash the N900.
Check: Settings > General > About Product
If your version is not the following:
Version: 10.2010.19-1
(6th August 2010)
then you could update your N900 anyway. Go to:
http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php
Enter your IMEI, download the latest firmware image and flash it on the N900.
If you already have that version you could reflash it.
An alternative would be to try to reinstall the mediaplayer packages. Open an X-Terminal change to user root (you need the "rootsh" package) and type:

# change to user root sudo gainroot dpkg -l | grep mediaplayer | grep -v l10 # there should be: mediaplayer, mediaplayer-restore, mediaplayerhomeapplet # if you do not have these packages then install them apt-get install mediaplayer mediaplayer-restore mediaplayerhomeapplet # and language files, e.g. apt-get install mediaplayer-l10n-enus
Maybe flashing the firmware would be easier for a beginner.

Your suggestion fixed the problem straightaway, thanks mate
I already had the latest firmware, so I attempted the restoring option...
All I did was open X Terminal, imported what you said to, and the Media Player was restored.

Pretty new to the N900 scene, just got my N900 2 weeks ago and loving it so far.
Only ran into my first problem today. I was trying to install the MAFW equalizer plugin, thought I done it correctly, and realized that I completely removed the N900's default Media Player from my phone.
Would anyone know how to install it again?
*Tried to restore via backup and app manager. The latter tells me that I can install mp-fremantle-generic-pr, but wont let me when I go to do so...
