Enough is enough guys! Please just let people leave in peace and be nice to one another. If we all are nice and helpful to one another then there will be no one fighting and angry, leaving, or ranting over something so simple. Attacking one another like a bunch of immature kids won't make this community united as a whole. We need to learn to understand one another and stop the bad comments please.

I beg of you people!!

In respect to why qwerty12 left, is the N900 particularly more "closed source" than the previous Maemo devices?

Do you think all these "farewell, PS you suck" posts are giving something to the community? We have too much noise here already.

But... if you want to stay with someone just turned his back to the rest, not with the rest - it's your choice. Be "friendly"...
It's not considered noise when people agree with the mass. Disagree with the masses, then it's relegated to the worst bits of communication. I get that already.

And people, as of late, are only nice to those that agree with them. Worship the N900... ****. You'll have friends for life.

I get how these threads are... annoying to some. But let's dig deeper for once. The threads would not happen at this site, or anywhere if people were universally more happy about the product and communication.

That is what is being overlooked. Whine, complain, troll, argue, flame, hate, love, or blissfully remain blind to whatever you may choose in the life; that's a truth that's being wholly overlooked.

Not that everybody would have been happy with the N900. I used one for months, still avoided purchasing it. Not because I saw a sinking ship ahead (like I do now) but because I had needs that have yet to still be met in the device. Can't please them all.

But you can't flame them all either.

Sooner or later, these kind of threads will stop. I can remember a time when there were none. It'll get back there soon enough... just wonder what will it take to get there.

Nokia solving the problems, Nokia communicating better or Nokia releasing something new. At this rate, it'll invariably be the last option, unfortunately.

The friendly bit, it was a reading of the entire forum, not just you.

In fact, I was quite fed up with Nokia before the introduction N900 but I thought I would give Nokia another go...so I did after the late late late introduction of N900. Was very well made (although a bit too thick!) but it was a nice experience....and I was looking forward to great software to come....but I must say I was disappointed!

Fist of all, they dropped Maemo...(my £500 N900 became obsolete only after a few months of introduction!!!!!), although they did issue a rather poor update in PR1.2, with missing voice guided OVI Maps Nokia promised...just to name one of the many promises they broke!!!

Then, to add insult to injury...they announced that there would not be an official Meego build for N900....that was a really clever decision Nokia!!!

The only thing that's keeping the N900 going is the Maemo.org community as Nokia have sadly abandoned its loyal fans....so well done and thank you Maemo community...and sadly bye bye Nokia as I've opted for an Android phone...it's a much more exciting and fun OS albeit not as powerful as Maemo!

Good bye for now...Ash
I am in the exact same position as you though my first Nokia was in 2000. I have never had any phone other than Nokia but N900 is looking like my last. Nokia is lagging too far behind and with so many amazing Android phones coming out like every other day the times of picking your devices simply on fanboyism (which is what I have always done - pick the best Nokia available) are a thing of the past. However, it is not the software support (no n900 maemo 6/meego update) and poor devices (n97) that has finally done it for me it is the lack of customer support - their refusing to fix the usb port on my N900 on the basis that they do not do international warranties).

As far as I know, Nokia never promised Ovi Maps with navigation for N900. It was just our sincere hope, which is not necessarily dead yet, although there is no such thing in sight at the moment. Nokia to blame of demise of Maemo? Maybe, but for me N900 is not obsolete yet. I also see point in their strategy of migrating to MeeGo. From Nokia's point of view, they need an OS which has as wide user base as possible (they need it fast) and this is easier to achieve with merging Maemo and Moblin to MeeGo. Nokia did great job by bringing official support for Qt to N900, this means that our beloved N900 is not obsolete at least yet. All good things come to an end and at least I knew what I was going to get when I bought my N900. But then of course, if you are more comfortable with some other device and/or manufacturer, then it's best that you stick with such device and/or manufacturer. It's really as simple as that. That's what I do and for me there is a reason why I stick with Nokia.

Maemo 5 had only 6 months (before the MeeGo announcement) to "grow old". 6 months...
