Wait, wait, it /doesn't/ have all the commanline utilities? But there IS access to the commandline, right? And surely you can get standard utils like bash/ldd for it?
The Linux thing is the major selling point for me and the main reason why I didn't just go get an iPod Touch as soon as they came out.

Once you install xterm, there is access to the command line:
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/osso-xterm-advanced
The "entire" unix command catalog on a device with a 256mb flash root is sort of a tall order though.
ssh client/server, openvpn, samba/cifs client, rsync, subversion, e2fsprogs, cron, gnu tar, wget, etc.
