Is it a good idea or a bad idea to load the OS 2007 (Hacker Edition)?

I want to have Flash, but what else do you get with the OS 2007?

What are the cons?

How easy/hard is it to get it loaded and working?

Can I go back to the OS 2006 if I change my mind and like the original OS better?

Decide for yourself if I know what I'm talking about. I used OS2006 for several months on a dual-boot N770, the other boot being the previous Hacker Edition. Now I've installed the latest OS2007HE and am gradually installing my old apps...I may not bother with dual-booting this time.

Why don't you dual-boot to try it out, that way you don't have to give up your current OS. If you don't know how to set up dual-boot and don't want to try, then don't try something called a "Hacker's" Edition operating system.

iTab - why don't you read the OS 2007 Hacker Edition thread or the numerous "how do I flash" threads then decide for yourself? Nobody can say if OS 2007 HE is ideal for you without knowing your requirements and even then only you can really decide.

Research your subject, don't expect people to just hand you a simple answer for something which really doesn't have a yes or no answer. The best answer I can give you is "probably".

The only questions that are easy to answer are these:

Yes.

The threads on this forum contain all the information (and more) that you need to answer your own questions.

Only if you use Milhouse's tutorial, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=8631.

Follow the instructions, check your typing of the commands for typo and check again to be sure, if you are not savvy with Debian. You should finish without any difficulty. How do I know? Cause I follow it verbatum, see my post under the same thread. It usually takes about 45 min the most. Then came the )_(*)*&&% part, to reinstall all your apps, yes, one by one. What I did was back up the data before the upgrade and restore after the upgrade. In this way, at least the skeleton data are there, the WiFi, passwords, accts, etc. And I think it is also a good habbit, to dl an app 1st before install the apps, then after the upgrade, you just have to reinstall from your own library/collections rather than going all over the place to hunt down the app. Milhouse said it is a piece of cake is quite true for a person of his calibre (you bet, he wrote the tutorial that has propelled the OS upgrade from stone age to civilization). You judge how good you are regarding Debian, I would plan a Saturday morning to embark on such a course.

Post back if question, and a piece of advice, be humble and respectful for people that were here first, like somebody that has 2100+ posts and wrote a tutorial, things like that. Post back we will help you to make it,

good luck

Actually Bun, it's easier than that - the question was "How easy/hard is it to get it [OS 2007HE] loaded and working?" To install OS 2007HE doesn't require MMC cloning, just flashing of the available OS 2007HE firmware image using the Nokia supplied firmware flashing tools! But yes, if dual booting is wanted as well then those simplified instructions are probably the best option.

Mil - You are right, again, I did not read closely. That is correct. To flash to 2007He is like install any software under a windoz system. That is really a piece of cake for anybody that has been around with windoz for awhile, I meant cloning the system, that, sometimes is not straightforward during the stone age. I remember posted at least 3 postings for help and read, read, read to get it going, that was my first clone of 2006OS to the 1G MMC. This beast, 770, is not easy to tame. That is why I was so very appreciative of your step 0-4.SH tutorial, salute.
In my subconscious, upgrade to 2007He is a "small" improvement, clone to MMC to have gigabyte space of installing apps is a major major improvement. Sometimes people complaints their system does not work as others, I suspect they run out of memory.

Hi.

New "SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2007.36-2" edition is out and I'd like to know just the basic results, no dual boots etc...

- Will I get Skype to Work?
- Will there be UPnP Media Streamer also working? Canola working?
No video requirements, because the HW does not have the muscle to
do any videos decoding anyhow.
I do not need anymore that those to work.
