Can anyone explain how this show my location in status message thing actually works? I have it set to street level, but it will only show the town I am in normally. Most of the time that is correct as long as I never leave the town but I can drive for 300 miles and it will still say I am at my home town as if it never bothered updating itself. The accuracy is shown as coarse.

Another thing I noticed was that if I start up the maps app then that will get a proper gps lock in a few seconds and show me the street I am on, sometimes this will update my location status message too. With maps running the accuracy is fine. If I quit the maps app then the location will show the town name again and go back to coarse accuracy - but thats only if it feels like changing at all.

Is there anywhere to look for error messages which might explain why my location is not getting changed? It seems the only real way to force an update is to restart the phone, but even that isn't 100% successful.

This isn't an issue with PR1.2, I had the same problems before too.

Almost related: i went for drive yesterday on a known route to try out Ovi Maps. It was completely off! And yes i did select the Car icon and not Walk. I wonder if there's a problem with accuracy either the GPS or the Maps. The red circle icon sometimes works, sometimes not. There's nothing wrong with reception as i had my E71 on at the same time with no issues!

Have always had the same problem as the original poster, just lived with it. Now suddenly it has stopped working at all - status message stays empty, location is never set, no matter what I choose as "my location" setting. Reboot does not help either. Anyone with a clue?

There's a bug about this (too lazy to search for it now). Nokia confirmed but decided not to fix it.
