Actually this is good, to have an app like this to keep the kidies pay attention and to lure them out of their crying habit.

Let's try to keep the thread for brainstorming the OPs idea please

MIss Maple, if you find a way to read in microphone levels and combine it with a simple ocarina/flute/pipe sound file playing, you're 99% of the way there

helex and MikeC were working on the problem of reading microphone input with Python and QTMultimedia, you may want to contact them to see if they found a work around for that. Combine that with the PyQt tutorial in my signature (the fart app one, but ofcourse use different sound files ). All you got to do is replace the button press signal with a signal triggered by microphone input, then you got yourself your musical blow app. Simples

How many times have I, when covering sound-desk at church, told inexperienced vocalists and speakers that the ONE thing we ask them NOT to do is BLOW INTO A MIC?!

You can blow gain stages that way. You can even blow speakers that way...

if you still want it, I assume you can read code [or contact the developers] of Babyphone for measuring noise level and of any turning-into-piano apps for sound output
