@imperiallight

I need the resistive screen for drawing. See post 6.
Also, I prefer to see my emails content (on gmail) while im replying. Hence hardware keyboard. One attached to the phone. I guess im just not "modern" enough to go all onscreen keyboard.

I am glad I can get a crappy workaround worse than the n900s for flash and mass storage, all while hopefully voiding my warranty by jailbreaking.

The problem with what you just said is that you promote the idea that you should settle for what you have now, flaws, exploits and all, and anything different, better or new is bad. In essence, you're forgetting that your device is very closely tied to the Nokia brand very closely and the community can only do so much to support your experience. Especially if you experience a hardware issue. Especially if you're in the US.

GOOD NEWS! There are other products out there, as powerful or more powerful and capable, with slide-out keyboards too!

The problem with what you just wrote is that I did no such thing. I merely gave credit to what was in my opinion a well structured post that resulted in giving me the information that he liked the phone but disliked the company. Useful distinction to know for me at least.

Also, on your grand end note. Please provide source on the new, powerful, slide-out keyboard phone with resistive screen (see post 6). Assuming you were trying to help with finding real alternatives based on my preferences.

But if intricate Art is your bag then get the n900.

Fair point. I guess a portable bluetooth keyboard case attached to the iphone has yet to surface but it will. I am going to try to modify this into a wallet kickstand and will post my results later:

help me choose a device
Ok, I think most of us were under the illusion you were boasting to us how you had finally thought for yourself. Our bad. One other choice could be the Touch pro 2 which has had Froyo ported to it for a while. But the n900 would be better with your rigged criterion.

Yeah, iphone has "brushes" as well which seems good. But I really like the pressure sensitivity like on my wacom tablet (and resistive screens).

For the last part of your reply, if you are referring to me. OP says clearly that i am still on the fence about n900. If you are going to make broad general statements about how other people perceive me, please do so without being rude, since I can't equal "boasting about finally thinking for myself" with OP or commenting on peoples alternative suggestions. Besides, I never even wrote "help me choose a device". That quote you just made up from thin air.

Seriously. If you want to draw, stick with MyPaint and the N900. It's currently tops in regards to drawing at the moment. And due to the capacitive screens now doing pressure(s) and/or varying levels yet - there's a "beta" capacitive pen that's not in production yet that does levels quite well - I'd say go that above route.

And ignore the naysayers. Jailbreaking killing your warranty, restore that mofo and typically Apple is none the wiser.

outdoors, IMO The n900 is a good device. It seems to me that you already have thought about your priorities wrt what you want in a phone and if the n900 matches your criteria I say go for it. Having said that I suggest asking about alternative devices from another more impartial forum too.

I find my n900 very useful and there isn't much I can't do with it if I put in the effort. Often there are missing features where I would have to seek a workaround but I think that is true of any phone. I think the drawback is that there is very little support outside of this community so you kind of get use to feeling left out reading about releases for iOS and Android only. Being a long time Linux user I've sort of got use to that from the PC market anyway, there are always alternatives that I have to seek out and the same is true for maemo.
Now the device itself I think is great but as you already know support isn't great even from Nokia themselves, you will feel like a second rate citizen but that's never stopped me with Linux and I get by just fine.

If you can't compromise on combined screen resistivity for art, built in hardware keyboard and direct flash support, then I think n900 is the shark of that pond.

So, can I run Garnet VM on a device other than the N900? Can that same device run OpenOffice.org and the Gimp? Does that device have an FM transmitter? Can I run programs coded with the same toolkits I am already familiar with from years of using and coding in Linux (Qt and GTK)? Does that same device allow me to multitask as smoothly as the N900? I'll stop there to make it fair. If such a device exist I will be interested.
