just got a n900 love it (was previously a android user)
only annoying thing is that you cant assign a ringtone to a contact like you can on most handsets .... is this due to be looked at ??

i have searched and there are various hacking ways but im not that far into my linux hacking to attempt it (perhaps in a few weeks)


is there any programs that will allow you to do the assigning ?

if you load the app manager there is a app just search the word contacts. if you dont find it you may need to add the extras, testing, and devel catalogs and then search again but its there. hope this helps

Install the app called "Custom ringtones for your contacts", that should do it.

After installing it, reboot your device.

Then, open the Contacts app, select a contact and from the menu, choose "Set custom ringtone".

have tried to add the extra#s repository but my app manager shows internal error and closes ... ive tried about 5 times to add the extra's repository without luck ... any idea's ???

Extras is enabled by default.

ive tried to access Custom ringtones for your contacts through the makers website but the repository doesnt seem to fill out all the details all i get is

I bet this app is currently in Extras-devel.

If you are having trouble with the repositories, you can always download the package directly from its package page. Note that you will have to download and install its dependencies manually... so I would recommend that you use Extras-devel.

Note that Extras-devel is dangerous, so if I were you, I would wait a little for the app to get into a safer place.
