recently every time i use xterm i'm getting errors returned about wget not being configured properly so installing anythoing is a major headache. app manager seems to be failing most of the time, fapman works 'sometimes' but returns a dpkg error after every use.

i must confess i dont know what wget is or does but its looking kinda important, so rather than remove re-install i thought i'd ask if its safe to do so first.

only answer i could find on search for a similair problem was "it seemed to fix itself after a few reboots and a battery pull" suffice to say reboots haven't helped and i dislike battery pulls!

Normally wget doesn't need any configuring. What exactly is the error message?

you can see the last thing i tried installing was nitdroid, it failed of course, hanging round in memory i tried autoremove, if theres another command you'd prefer jus say!

wget has been returning the same errors for days now. just nitdroid was the last thing i tried to install like ten mins ago when i gave up and decided to cry for help!

basically, is it safe to remove? like i said i dont know what it does, but it seems tied to apt-get, so if i remove it i may not be able to apt-get install it again? which would suck.

i also tried looking for the install info mentioned in the error returned, but it doesn't appear to be there -

Nokia-N900-42-11:~# cd /usr/share/info/
Nokia-N900-42-11:/usr/share/info# ls
README

@ossipena - do you mean the subprocess post-installation script? alas i have no idea what that is either! yes i know i'm a noob!

Script is fine, has worked well for many people.

Someone with the exact same issue.

Pretty sure wget wasn't installed and as the correct repo wasn't enabled, he couldn't get it.

I think wget just downloads files ready for you to install.

try apt-get remove wget or if that fails apt-get remove --purge wget

As far as i know the 'apt-get' installs from the repos and 'wget' installs from a provided url (internet/http) so it should not matter if you remove 'wget' or not wether 'apt-get' works or not. I'm no expert so this is just what i know and i might be incorrect

If you remove 'wget' you wont be able to install NITdroid with the autoinstaller, but then again you could allways install again and see if your problem were gone
