hi guys, now we all discussed 720 p video capture on the n900, but can it be done, especially with the new fcam drivers, we all saw the new hdr capture app, its impressive isn't it ??
but the n900 is capable of playing 720 p video, and we all have our devices overclocked so i don't think thats a problem, anyway i know that with 720 @ 25 fps (or more) we can't multitask anymore, and we may even have to disconnect everything ( 3g, wifi....) while shooting a video ,
but can it be done, please ????????????????????????
i don't see why not with the fcam drivers
come on guys 720p on the n900 would be awesome.

I wonder how this post looked before the edit (;
No Harm intended

I have no idea about the 720p part though....

Wishing to jump on this post just because I need to the echo the sentiment.

The one thing I knew was missing from the N900 when I bought it was HD video capture, it was my fervent hope that someone could make this happen, is there anyone out there able to pick up the torch or alternatively educated us?

Also I have been very impressed by the work on NITDroid and wondered if it would be possible (or indeed easier) to get HD video capture from Froyo?

Truly, of all the phones I have owned I have been least amazed by the N900 and at the same time totally bowled over by the power of this community.

I feel this community cannot see how amazingly well it has done. Yes there will always be nay-sayers, critics and trolls but the dedication of this community to open source and tablet devices is humbling.

Thankyou.

No it´s not.
1280x720 would be just waste of resources on 800x480 screen.

id just transfer the videos on to the pc or something. dosnt matter if the n900 cant show the videos in full quality,it will still look much better then the video that gets outputted at the moment!

Now imagine a phone call coming in.

The camera is capable of 5M for still photos, which is way more than 720p. But this may not be available for recording. If the device has a really hard time playing back 720p, it would be near impossible to record with this resolution. I suppose the best you can get would be some MJPEG compressed stream of burst mode pictures. This should be somehow achievable.

now.... androids (google n1, htc desire, galaxy S...) have the same screen resolution, and capable of shooting 720p videos, why isn't that possible on the n900 ?????!!??
if nokia opened the camera drivers, would it be possible than ????
i was reading 2 weeks ago that this is possible if someone rewrote the drivers......
guys please don't be so negative, look at my signature, and have some insiperation, this device has no limits, and, you, n900 tweakers\developers have no limits, open source tweaking is what u guys do best, and it would be great going to engadget or openarena and read the deadline "n900 now capable of shooting 720p videos thanks to the great developers......."
ps: the google n1 is capable of doing 720p after rooting....

if I have understood correctly, bus between sensor and cpu is the first restricting factor. overclocking doesn't help if you need 30mm dia pipe for your feces but you have only 25mm dia pipe....
