I've just run a test to simulate the the tabs 7" 170ppi on my N810 at a 140%-150% scale in the browser (opera mobile, microB). This roughly accounts for ~63% increase in diagonal size of the 7" screen, and the ~17% increase in pixel density (I assume square pixels).

Conclusion? The text size is VERY comfortable (~likely 8-11pt) and should be very easy to read on a 7" screen. Of course, text can be scaled larger or smaller, though all things being equal with the comparatively small N810 screen, the 3.7" increase should be a great addition to usability!

It includes data, unlimited; if there's a limit to the unlimitedness, I don't know what it is.

The whole thing is tricky. Currently I am on a beta program for the new addressing to get more, better ip addresses. This gives me superfast speeds -- so much so that I forget whether I am using that or my home wireless sometimes. See ipv6 Beta thread for more details.

You get a different apn for that. All you need to sign up for the beta program is an unlimited account of some kind, and the $15 a month is a new Tmobile price for daily unlimited service. HOWEVER, you would need to use TOR because it is set up to prevent people from taking advantage of it with Smartphones and TOR gets around that. HOWEVER, the beta program gets around that so you don't need TOR.

The end date for the beta program hasn't been announced yet.

But you can cancel the $15 plan any time, though it doesn't actually stop till the 30 days you paid for runs out.

If you look at the tmobile site from somewhere other than my.t-mobile.com you won't see the information on some of the best prepaid prices. The best way to see everything is to actually sign up for prepaid -- then you have the option of switching to any of the plans, including the $15 one.

But you have to take care of the beta signup separately. I assume they are still accepting new entrants. I hope the beta program stays forever, but I have a feeling it will end someday, alas.

Heh.. It seems that my measurements were a waste of time. The third vid from the GSM arena preview gives a good indication of browsing and text size @ 1024x600. The video is 720p, so watch it fullscreen to get a feel for the size of the text.

http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gala...view-508p3.php

It's interesting to note that the site being surfed in the video is GSM arena, and it is exactly 1000px wide (I took the metrics of a flash ad which spans the width of the site!).

7" seems like the perfect size, and 1024x600 is a great resolution for a comfortable experience (I know this as it's the same res as my netbook!).
Out of interest, when playing on an emulator, would/could a joypad be used?

I'm sure a psx or snes emulator would be amazing on the Galaxy tab with a pad to play with. Has anybody used an Android emulator? I would try but NITdroid is playing up at the minute.

This is INSANE. Wow, I would be all over this.... if I lived in the US! Being in Canada, our options are limited and much more expensive.

Quick question. Since you mention APN, is the prepaid for 'web', or the more general 'data'? I know there are unlimited 'web' plans up here for $10/mo, which I'm curious about. Of course to use things like SSH or SIP, I would need data, and it's a little tricky setting up an HTTP tunnel.

Yes! I know you can use a Wiimote for Android to play (PSX/Snes), but I'm not sure about the a PSX joypad. Emu games run REALLY well on the Galaxy S (some early posts in this thread have youtube videos showing this), but it remains to be seen if they will run as well with the increased 1024x600 resolution (fingers crossed).

Some games don't work, but many do (apparently).

I'm not sure what the distinction between 'web' and 'data' is. I haven't tried SSH or SIP -- mostly I am on home WiFi so I am not interested in trying out subtleties from my local fast-food restaurant, which is where I am when I want non-WiFi services.

Some people can only use certain web sites with their plans. I am not restricted in that way, anything is fine for me.

For your amusement, here is the red tape associated with our Prepaid plans. I haven't read it closely. Make of it what you will (There is a section guaranteeing unlimited data, FWIW):

Limited-time offer; all rates, offers, pricing and features subject to change without notice. Taxes and fees additional. Domestic only. Not all features or plans available on all devices. Unlimited features are only for direct communication between two people. Monthly Plans: Plan features available for 30 days; if sufficient account balance, plans automatically renew at the end of 30 days. If balance is insufficient to renew for 60 days, account will be converted to Pay As You Go. Pay As You Go: Service available for 90 days (one year for Gold Rewards) after activation/refill. After that, your account will be suspended and no service will be available. Gold Rewards requires activation of $100 in refills; you must refill while on Pay As You Go plan to obtain full Gold Rewards benefits. Pay-By-The-Day: Service available for 90 days (one year after activating $100 in refills) after activation/refill. $1 will be deducted from your balance each day you make or receive any call, including calls to voicemail and other calling features. If you sign up for plan more than one time in a day, $1 will be deducted each time. Day is 12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., based on time zone associated with your phone number. If call spans multiple days (e.g., starts at 11:58 p.m. and ends at 12:05 a.m.), you may be charged $1 for each day. Nights are 7:00 p.m. to 6:59 a.m.; time zone determined by location of the equipment that connects the call. Weekends are midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. T-Mobile-to-T-Mobile calls are directly dialed between T-Mobile customer devices while on the T-Mobile USA network (and not roaming); calls to voicemail and other T-Mobile service numbers not included. Sidekick: Service available for 90 days after activation/refill. Service is $1/day even on days you do not use your phone. Prepaid General Terms: Sufficient balance required to use service. Calls rated on a per minute basis; partial minutes rounded up for billing. Void if not activated within 90 days from purchase. No cash redemption value. Non-refundable. Not responsible if lost or stolen. If you transfer your number to another carrier, your account will be deactivated and no service will be available. Devices sold for use on T-Mobile prepaid service are to be activated on that service, not transferred for resale, modification, or export. Messaging: You will be charged for all data sent by or to you through the network, regardless of whether received. Character length/file size of messages/attachments may be limited. T-Mobile is not liable for any failures, delays or errors in any T-Mobile-generated alerts or notifications. Data: Your data session, plan, or service may be slowed, suspended, terminated, or restricted if you use your service in a way that interferes with or impacts our network or ability to provide quality service to other users, if you roam for a significant portion of your usage, or if you use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth during a billing cycle. You may not use your plan or device for prohibited uses. Downloads: Additional charges apply; not all downloads available on all devices. Not all sites optimized for mobile browsers. You obtain no rights in downloads; duration of use may be limited; may be stored solely for use with your device. T-Mobile is not responsible for any download lost due to your error. Coverage: Service is not available everywhere; see Coverage Map at T-Mobile.com for details. Abnormal Usage: Service may be limited or terminated for misuse, abnormal usage, or significant roaming. By using service, you accept T-Mobile’s Terms and Conditions (including arbitration provision), located at www.t-mobile.com.

I was just checking out the vodafone page with the tab on and it says that it has a 1.2Ghz processor!

I'm pretty sure that everywhere else I looked it said 1Ghz. Not that it makes much difference. I suppose all we need to know now is how much it will actually cost. My contract finishes in March so hopefully the price will have dropped slightly by then.

If the price is competitive then I can see the Galaxy tab being quite the success story.

It was rumored to be 1.2GHz at first, but the official spec page lists 1GHz, which is still quite fast by all indications. I'm sure the community will have this overclocked in no time which I'm sure will still get great battery life with the large 4000mAh battery!

However, the GPU is the fastest in the industry. Of course, until dual-coreTegra 2 comes along, which will be far faster in both CPU and GPU!

The Tab will be the top performer, but not for long. As long as it's a comfortable all-around experience (which it looks like), I'm personally not hung up on if its the fastest. I've learned there are things that I prize over raw speed (eg. battery life).

I was pumped for this device, but think it is a poor design decision to not use micro usb. Pass for me and will wait for something else that does not try to screw users over with more cable purchases. Micro usb has just taken over for mini usb and now OEMs have to be cute with something else.

I will wait for the dual core devices with Tegra
