Someone more knowledgeable than me will hopefully respond re. intercepting the dbus calls to 'externally' modify the app behaviour but re. the code - as I understand it the source isn't password protected, it's unpublished. The app is only a binary (i.e. the compiled executable version of the code).

Meantime, I don't actually understand the bug you reported - do you mean that other audio app(s) and/or web audio content is being controlled by the cam key when the phone is locked? Or do you just mean that with the media player open, but not currently playing & not paused, it reacts to the cam key by starting to play whatever may be in its playlist? I can't replicate either scenario, so curious to know what exactly the issue is.

Regardless if Media Player is running or not, the camera key unpauses music playback. The screen must be locked for this to happen.

To reproduce:
Open Media Player. Start playing a music track. Stop/Pause, exit Media Player. Lock the screen. Press camera button. Music begins to play again.

Should you press camera button as screen is not locked, the bug will not reproduce.

Ah, I get you now, thanks for clarifying. I'd never pressed the cam key in those circumstances.

Having just fooled around with it, I also now see what the other bug (about system notification tones) is about. I've managed to get my phone into a state where even with the media player 'closed', I'm only getting the little unobtrusive beep/vibration to indicate new email/SMS rather than my usual custom tones.

That explains why I have been failing to notice SMS's while I'm out and about and have been using Querty's cam key to control audio. A reboot of the phone fixes this, but it is indeed a nuisance!

There'S no need to reboot your device to fix the no sounds bug. Just open media player, play a song, and stop the song with the pause/stop button on screen. This works for me.

Maybe screw his software disclaimer and fix these few irritating bugs? Or is it actually possible to close (for eg. password protect) code to disallow alterations? Total coding noob (below noob tbh) tossing these questions out here.
that's ridiculous, qwerty just complained about stupid posts... and here you are!

They cannot be fixed. querty12 explicitly released it without source code to spite everyone here. Just uninstall it and stop using it.

Ironic ain't it?

What, that he'd take the low road? No, that's immature, not ironic. I'm no fan of how Nokia's been behaving, but his exit easily puts him lower in my book.

Of course it was immature, I think Faheem was all of 14 years old when he first came to this place. However the irony is in the product and not in the personality. And his production certainly wasn't immature. It was outstanding and topped by only one other member.

He walked the walk as far as I'm concerned and only Mikko can talk the talk as far as his community contribution is concerned.

It is also ironic how we measured that production with "Karma". I don't know how he was treated on IRC or in the mailing lists, I left that sausage fest long ago. Besides it seemed to be dominated by talkers instead of doers anyway.

I spent weeks it seems downloading community mailing list digests for instance where only 1 or 2 people were dominating those lists nagging for, and then crying about, the travel accommodations Nokia was providing for them.

We often hear about the signal to noise ratio on the forums... well at least it ain't as linear. On the forums you can instantly change the station to another more productive thread.

In the other venues you often have to endure long winded, sanctimonious dissertations and side discussions about god knows what in order to extract a nugget of information. If your question doesn't follow that discussions protocol (often derived from some episode of a 35 year old cult, sci-fi TV show ) or your answer doesn't jibe with the popular consensus look out, that band wagon will come around and everyone on it will jump off on to your head.

The karmic irony is that a lot of negative energy must have come from those places in order to overcome the positive energy qwerty12's past contributions produced.

Oh well... life goes on.
