I love my n900 and after using my wifes wildfire (android) and my N900 (NitDroid) some I must say Maemo is just the better OS. I finaly found out why open source is so much better because you guys write apps that make the OS even better (easy switch stuff in menu bar and stuff)

So much can be done faster (swich open apps, connect to internet ...) So this realy makes me sad thinking that MeGoo could be a step back - but lets wait and see.

BUT

I installed NitDroid on my N900 and did watch a video I convertet using handbrake and it ran perfect in NitDroid which seems not to use any hardware graphics stuff.

In Maemo the video does not play well and skips and stuff.

Making Playlists in Media Player is simply a pain in the (you know where)

SO

Can anyone tell me what the best Player is for the N900 and if its a bit complicated to install some advice how to do it?

PS: Sometimes all my widgets are missing from my desktops, or once all my contacts were gone. Once in a while it seem even though my screen is locked it opens up in edit mode for icons and some are missplaced. Any advice on that as well?

Get "kmplayer". Its a front end for mplayer, which is basicly the only good player out there.
I'd install it by:
1. open xterminal.
2. type "sudo gainroot" (make sure gainroot is installed first)
3. install with: "apt-get install kmplayer"
... Or you could just get it with the application manager tool.

VLC is coming, but last I heard, its kind of slow still.

Pocket dialing, me thinks. I had it do the same thing on me for a while; I eventually set a pin code and truely locked it.
Recently though, I got a $2 "crystal clear case" off ebay, which is a two part case that snaps around the n900. I ended up -just- using the back half, and that provides a good 1/8" border around the hold & power switches. No more problem.

Try installing the extra codecs package. If it doesn't make it better, then mplayer+kmplayer.

You can create playlists on your computer and transfer those to the N900.

You could try Instinctiv or kmplayer+mplayer.

Sometimes hildon-home restarts and resets your widgets and stuff. The cause is usually some unstable widget that crashes and brings down with itself the others.

To me, it seems that your device is for some reason unlocked when you don't use it. Magnets can cause such an effect.

Did follow instructions. But don't seem to see anything in my apps. Do I need to resart? Or do I need to download mPlayer as well?

I have a pin as well on it because of my mails and stuff. But of course. But when I just use 'lock screens and key' its not active. I would have to use 'secure device' first every time and thats just one step to much :-)

Playlist on Computer and transfer it. Its a pain because I buy stuff in iTunes and first have to convert to mp3 and then have double stuff bla bla bla. Any good workflow comming from iTunes.
