I have had the same issue for a couple of days now and it doesn't help removing the N.M. account from the phone and readding it.

Not a lot of people have voted for the bug mentioned in post #3 ( https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10566 ). May I urge everyone with this problem to do so, so that it might get some attention.

Me too, the problem started happening two days ago.

From this thread we have:
--it could be a bug, and a Maemo bug ticket was filed.
--it could be Nokia doing maintenance.
--it could be a Vodaphone issue.
--it could be a problem with users with email accounts similar to
an e-mail address (ie, with Google Apps your POP3/IMAP
"account" IS your e-mail address).
--it could have started some 4 weeks ago for some, but just a couple of
days ago for me.
--it could be that Nokia Messaging was a 13 month trial but now isn't.

Please Nokia, can somebody answer the bug ticket or reply to this thread. You have to guess that for every person that replied to this thread, it is happening for many more users. I'm in the U.S. and have been happily using Nokia Messaging with three mailboxes for about 9 months.

It would be great if Nokia could tell us what the problem is, when it will be fixed, and what we should do.

had the same problem on both N97 and N900. uninstall and reinstall Nokia Messaging on N97 and removed account from N900 and then readded and works on both devices again.

IIRC they were doing a NOC move for NM. It appeared to be some sort of caching issue to me.

Symbian app said it was authentication issue and I suspect poor error handling on N900, but NM iimplementation is much weaker on N900, just using the base mail client without the tools/icons available in the Symbian apps (though admittedly the N900 mail client is far superior to the Symbian mail app)

I'm really stuck with this. My NM account was deleted by Nokia 'Care' at my request in the belief that I could easily set up a new one - I hoped this would fix my problem with the password bug.

However, I can't set up a new NM account; if I try online it won't let me continue saying I have to do it via my phone, and when I try to set up a new account via my phone (Email>New> etc...) when I enter an email address and password it says it can't contact the email provider. This is a ridiculous cycle to get in to, truly shocking engineering.

So what am I supposed to do? Sounds like there are so many people with this issue, someone at Nokia should know how to deal with this.

One reason for getting the can't contact email provider error is if you are not subscribed to the service via your phone provider (assuming your trial is over).

Also if you are subscribing via your phone provider, that initial setup needs to be done over GPRS/3G, not over wireless, otherwise the NM account is not associated with your SIM card.

I got excited then and tried doing it over a 3G connection instead of wireless...but still the same error.

I was told by Vodafone that they had nothing to do with limiting the trial and there was no reason they would block it. Not that that means a huge amount coming from them !

Thanks for the suggestions, got any more

Just FYI, I am on Voda and mine works OK - and I would bet a large ammount that I set it up originally on WiFi ... I certainly used WiFi when I deleted/recreated.

If you're still using the trial then setting it up over wifi should work just fine.

It's only if you are paying your phone provider for the service that you need to set it up over GPRS/3G.
