Hi,

My problem is this: I connect the phone through USB to a computer and it charges. (Other USB functions also work.) This is with the OFFICAL USB cable.

I plug it into the wall, using the wall plug which came in the box, and nothing. No charging light, or message.

I bought a second offical wall plug online... No charging..

I tried different sockets around my house... No charging.

I tried the car charger which worked fine 3 days ago... No charging.

Needless to say, the wall charger has worked fine every night since I bought the device but overnight seems to have stopped working.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Many thanks,
Fifthfreedom

Check out an old reply of mine to someone with similar problems to yours, it might help.

18:24:56.686: bme property maemo.charger.connection_status = 'disconnected'

18:24:57.528: bme property maemo.charger.type = 'none'
This is what I got.

PS Ignore the time stamps, I edited your original post.

Looks like it knows the charger is plugged in but doesn't want to charge from it. Have you tried checking for dust in the USB socket, may be dirt is blocking some of the connections and preventing the phone from identifying the charger correctly.

Doesnt seem dusty... Without taking it apart cant really check. I just blew into it?

UPDATE: Now when connected by USB if you wiggle the cable it keeps being recognised by the PC over and over again. I think an RMA is in order...

Return Merchandise Authorisation.

A quick way of saying "send it the hell back"

I am sorry to inform you but you are the latest victim of the Nokia N900 faulty usb port issue. What you are experiencing is exactly what happened to me. In a few weeks you will find that it will just stop connecting to your pc altogether. The usb has become loose because the N900 has a design defect. I will not be surprised if Nokia have fired the person who designed the N900 usb port.

Send the thing back to Nokia quick before your warranty expires. Do not listen to any other advice. Do not feel tempted to continue charging from pc because that will not last long and if you are unlucky may last until the day after your warranty expires.

Oops double post. Thanks blackberry rubbish web browser.

And why am I using a blackberry and its rubbish web browser when I have an N900? Because I experienced the same thing as you and then as I said in post above the N900 just stopped connecting to pc. nokia refused to repair it saying they do not do international warranties (I live in UK and got the device in the US). So I sent it to a phone repair shop to repair and they are charging me £30 for something useless nokia should do for free.

Design a faulty product and refuse to repair when design fault materialises. Way to keep customers Nokia.
