Hi b-man, i'm a fan of your works.
I'm really interested in porting ubuntu to the n810, i think it will be really useful.
At this point of porting of 9.10, how is it? Laggy and unresponsive like the easy debian (who take some minutes to open openoffice) or more like maemo itself?
Another thing i haven't really figured out: if i install ubuntu on my n810, will it run under maemo like a normal app, like deblet does, or it will run on his own (which mean i have to boot into it?)

Not without rebuilding everything yourself, Ubuntu Lucid targets ARMv7 and higher only, the N8x0s are out of luck since their OMAP2420 CPU is "only" ARMv6.

(Don't feel too left out though, the N900 may not be much luckier either since apparently it's OMAP has broken thumb support and Lucid requires it.)

That explains why, even though I've followed the instructions here to the letter, I've had a terrible time trying to get Lucid to run in a chroot. It seems very unstable and crash-prone...

Now I know why.

But still, I've had some limited success...



EDIT: I'm wondering if my recent upgrade to the Power User Kernel has fixed things, because it seems to be working better than it ever did before... is that possible?

Isn't it only a requirement for their their binaries? IIRC, their kernel isn't even using Thumb2 yet.

Why not kill two birds with one build.

How Ubuntu isn't using the n900 as one of the reference devices is beyond me, but whatever. Go one step down and build the binaries. Do a proof-of-concept, and then create a global add/replace script for

and stuff. This has to be done regardless. If there are still kernel issues, they can hopefully be dealt with afterwards.

B-man, I wanted to thank you for your excellent how-to and your repos. I was able to successfully get Ubuntu running on my N810 very quickly and easily.

While it really does work great, I have two issues. First, the FN key doesnt work. I read that I need to install xkbd from the Mer repos, however they seem to be down. Do you or anyone else here have the xkbd deb from Mer repos?

Secondly, is there a config file that controls the stylus? It works, however it seems to stick and always brings up the right-click menu. Using the virtual keyboard is also impossible because of this, since it sticks and causes the letter to be typed continuously...

Edit: I just read that my touchscreen problem is related to me not being able to get tslib from the mer repos since they are down. Are there mirrors anywhere?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
