spent a week without my n900 due to sending it to nokia via my local express centre as the gps wouldnt work

Its come back and guess what gps still doesnt work.. have tried nokia maps and the gps does show a signal but it puts me around 1/2 mile away from where i am ..... tried sygic maps and no gps satelites show no matter how long i leave it ....

well its booked back in with nokia again and this time they better fix it or its going up for sale

im seriously thinking of getting rid and getting the dell streak cos nokia is so rubbish

how many times does a phone have to be repaired to get a replacement ???

Perhaps you should go yell at Nokia directly, instead of us?

there are quite a few theads about GPS stopping working (particularly after installation of kernel-power) and if you have that instllaed, a simple clear out of your cache may help? See: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=60940

Might I suggest you tackle them in a more public forum, namely:

I think these issues should get all the attention it can, because Nokia service is indeed awful. And your phone might be next to need repairs. I only got mine replaced by filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Sent mine in 3 times.

I have to agree. In fact I have experience of GPS locks indoors! And I have only great things to say about N900

Fact is though that manufacturing defects do happen. Our perfectly working device and lovely success stories probably dont help the OP with his problem or his experience of below par Nokia Repair Service. He has a right to expect better.

I also had "pleasure" of dealing with Nokia Don'tCare service. My advice - try all forms of complaining, like sending emails/calling Nokia Don'tCare, trying to write to some Nokia execs, etc. I had my n900 repaired (not replaced) only after nagging them continuosly.

i have kernel-power installed. oc @1150ghz and i got a lock position indoors in less than 6 secs. GPS works great, either ovi maps, mapero, sygic, web based gmaps etc.

try disabling Settings - Location - GPS and Network position.

now open an app that requires GPS, it should prompt which GPS settings you prefer (GPS or Network positioning. check one of them and test, vise versa and lastly check both options.
