thanks paulkoan..

i didnt mean to sound ungrateful... i am willing to provide all the necessary explianations that i can... as for the step you proferred to correct the fat32 error, i guess i should hold on a bit as I am grossly inexperienced and rely on the teams strenght in resolving my problem.

i dont know if its right to suggest using another system to scan the N900 once in mass storage mood.

i am thankful and rely on the team

thanks guys

Well I admit my first guess (a virus) was quite excessive... I was brought in that direction by the admon-bug which I thought could be a virus internal signature. But admon-bug seems an icon name - as results from a quick google search.

The procedure to check and repair the MyDocs filesystem should be, in a root xterm
Code:
mount -o ro,remount /home/user/MyDocs
fsck.vfat -y /home/user/MyDocs
then I would issue a
Code:
sync
and then a
Code:
halt
.
Then turn on and cross fingers.

What do you think?

it strongly sounds like a problem with mydocs -partition.

Plug n900 to your pc, can your pc access the 27gb partition?
If yes, remove it safely (unmount) and check if it is remounted to maemo automatically.
If no, you could try those xterm commands.

Thanks Debernardis,

i have tried this out and ossipena recommendation. when i entered your command in the root mode; it returned a message saying "Memory is read only until fixed. Try fixing memory with a pc after plugging in USB cable. Create data backup first to save existing memory content".

what do you think?

thanks

So do as it says:
connect to a pc, copy all your files from MyDocs to a secure position (don't forget the hidden directories like .documents or .images - both in windows and in gnu-linux there are options to see hidden files) then use your desktop to repair your MyDocs partition.
In linux it's the same command as I wrote above.

Hi Debernardis,

Thanks for your response...

Just to confirm; do you mean after I copy out the files to a safe location on my PC, i should format the drive using the format option in "my computer"

Thanks

you should try fixing the partition first before reformatting

Thanks Ossipena,

I have successfully formated it and it appears everything is in good shape now. Do you advice I restore my back-up file?

Thanks in advance.
