Possibly the other way around, with the # at the end? Usually it's e.g. *99***1#, but sometimes it could be just *99# or some other combination.

Just out of interest, did you actually try using the operator wizard first?

Most phone networks I've seen use that dial code for phones acting as bluetooth modems.
