this is my 1st post with my 770. Still getting used to it. So far, I love it. Nokia sent me a refurb because mine was deemed irreparable. Uh, ok whatever. I'll just figure it out today at work. Especially since we have the WLAN hooked up.

Hola, fellow N770 newbie!

I've had mine for a few days and I've got to say it's excellent. I'm still reeling from how good it is, in fact, especially because all the reviews said it was pretty bad. Never trust journalists!

While I hear the N800 is even better, I'm probably going to skip the N800 and go straight onto the next model sometime next year. Fact is that the N770 does all I need, and shares much of the same software as OS2007.

My latest find: Maemo Mapper. I'm not using it for mapping, but for grabbing all the details from the GPS unit that came with my 770. So I now have latitude and longitude figures at my fingertips for when I'm out hiking (as well as altitude, somehow!).

Actually, I AM downloading maps on Maemo Mapper! This is just incredible -- I can download Google Satellite images of where I'm going be hiking before I leave the house, and it will then cache them so that I can actually locate myself, on a satellite photo of where I'm walking, while out in the middle of nowhere!

The benefits of this are obvious. Satellite views show things like paths and roads that I might not be able to see. I'm not sure but I don't actually think you can purchase anything that can do this right now - that shows actual satellite photos with you located within them while you're miles from the nearest Net connection.

If you have a GPS unit then you've got to download Maemo Mapper. It's the Nokia 770/800 killer app. But you've got to read its help file! I downloaded it a few days ago and gave up straight away. It takes a little time to figure out. Right now it's downloading around 150MB of satellite imagery of the area I live in. This means it'll be able to track me pretty much wherever I go locally. Ever wondered what was over that high wall? Maemo Mapper's satellite imagery will tell you

yeah i know mapper is next. i have been looking at one bt module. it's got the same charger as the 770. i can't remember the name of it though. (it's the Nokia LD-3W). Mapper does seem pretty cool.
